I agree with the size concern but I won't knock it until I try it. I'm sure they'll have alternatives to the controller. They always do.

Besides, the system is still a ways off and I'm sure most of what they've shown today are prototypes. We'll have to wait until next E3 at the least to see the final design since the system will come out in Oct. 2012.

I want to see what they'll show at the Tokyo Game Show later this year and how far along they're going to be.

I mostly play shooters and I can't imagine myself playing BF3 for 5 hours straight with that in my hands.

I believe it will be backwards compatible with all Wii accessories. So I assume many of these games can be played with the Wii classic controller. Problem I have is Nintendo wanted to sell the entire console on the controller alone. they didn't even show the console on the big screen. We saw pics of Zelda and footage from other games that are multiplatform. We'll have to wait till E3 2012 to see the big first party les.

Serious question, when do you think those two system will come out? If they come out in 2014 then Nintendo is going to have a two year advantage. No way in those two systems come out in 2013, well at the very earliest late 2013.

Before E3 2011 I was convinced the new Nintendo console would on the 360/PS3 and force their hands to get moving on a new console and show it off at E3 2012 for a 2013 release date. But now I am not so sure. I think the 360 and PS3 will be more then capable of competing against the Wii U. One thing about Nintendo is they will sell the out of their consoles on store shelves for the first year (though being in short supply) but software will be lacking.

I agree with you about the controller being the gimmick here. But I think we're still in the "beta" stages of the system and next year will be the real year when they try to sell it to us. I think this was mostly a demonstration of "look what we have".

I agree. I guess I'm just pissed because I really wanted to jump back into Nintendo's corner and their presentation was disappointing. I barely played on my Gamecube and I've only logged a few hours onto my Wii. I grew up with Nintendo; the N64 is still my favorite console of all-time.

Please change the name to Super Wii! Wii U sucks.

Are you enjoying the saturation of ing shooters? It's boring man and driving me nuts. As for the hardcore stuff that you want, we'll see if Nintendo finally get their third party support. Speaking of which, if it's a compe ion of the same game coming to all three systems, the Wii U is more than likely the one to get for the next two years until Sony and Microsoft have their new consoles out.

Don't change Nintendo, keep doing what you're doing.

Yeah I grew up with a SNES and felt burnt with the Wii. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt ,and I really want developers to jump and support the new system.

Next year at E3 will probably make it or break it for me.

Hot damn, the Wii U has a ing powerful processor. Once developers get to play around and see how freaking powerful this thing is, it's going to on the PS3 and 360.

    http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/i...intendo-wii-u/

Nintendo's new console, the Wii U, was finally unveiled to the world today at E3 2011, and we got a glimpse of its graphical prowess at the company's keynote. Details were scarce about the IBM silicon Nintendo's new HD powerhouse was packing, but we did some digging to get a little more info. IBM tells us that within the Wii U there's a 45nm custom chip with "a lot" of embedded DRAM (shown above). It's a silicon on insulator design and packs the same processor technology found in Watson, the supercomputer that bested a couple of meatbags on Jeopardy awhile back. Unfortunately, IBM wouldn't give us the chip's clock speeds, but if it's good enough to smoke Ken Jennings on national TV, we imagine it'll do alright against its compe ion from Sony and Microsoft.
Yeah thats true. But whats also true is that by the time that happens the PS4 will be coming out as will the NG MS machine and they'll be ting on the PS3 and 360 too.

The Nintendo Wii U tablet-style controller will not be sold separately from it new HD console, Nintendo has told CVG.

We asked a company spokesperson at the firm's VIP stand at E3 2011 in Los Angeles today about the price of each item. He told us that there would only be one bundled RRP, adding: "Both the controller and the console will be sold as one unit. You won't be able to buy the controller alone."

The rep also told us that multiplayer games being created for the system are only being designed to accomodate one tablet-style controller, whilst other players will need to use a Wiimote. It is currently unknown whether it is possible to sync more than one of the new controllers to a single Wii U.

You make it sound so black and white dude. You're telling me there won't be any options in these games to turn that motion control off in NBA 2k and Madden when they come out for the WiiU?

Keep doing what you're doing Nintendo, catering to the casuals
That's where the money is at mang. But I agree with you about the casuals to a point. Nintendo should hire first party developers that are experienced in the hardcore game arena to please both sides.

I play Super Mario to break the monotony of shooters and "serious" ing games. If I wanted to be serious, I would go outside and never buy another system again.

If Sony really wants one they can have one before Nintendo by adding that functionality to the Vita.

So you are ed if your controller breaks? I'm assuming the reason the controller won't be sold separately is that the thing alone costs over $100. No one wants to buy a controller for over $100. But, as they have shown, the console IS essentially the controller.

You buy this and I suggest buying a long term warranty.

How exactly does this help your argument?

Here's the thing. No one out there is going to program for this console. They're going to port from the PS3 and 360 to it. In the same way that PC games get ported from PS3/360.

The only things that will be made for the Wii U ground up will be MS exclusives that not many people care about. I'm sure the Zelda game on it will look awesome but what else?
