Denarius Moore reportedly on the roster bubble. its crazy what a difference a year makes. last year our 53 man roster initially had 2 punters, and this year a guy with legit talent could be a cut. roster is miles ahead of last 2 seasons

    - Schaub looked so pedestrian out there. I didn't think he was terrible, but he was uninspiring. The interception wasn't his fault, it was a solid throw and James Jones couldn't hang on. The DB got his hand in there, but good receivers will show strong hands when its a contested ball. Instead it got batted up and picked off. Regardless, he should have been picked off on an earlier throw to the sideline and is lucky Mathis dropped it. In the offseason I was for the Schaub acquisition, but I didn't want to send a pick for him for this reason... I knew he'd be a stopgap, and you shouldn't trade draft picks for stopgaps.

    - The running backs look really impressive. MJD showed some of that old burst, was breaking tackles. McFadden for all his bull injuries doesn't look like they've affected him long term. He looks 100% and I think the committee with Jones-Drew will be the best thing thats ever happened with him. Both guys can run strong, both guys can catch, both can pass protect. The offense will lean on them quite a bit.

    - The offensive line looked good. The best news is that they gave 3rd round pick Gabe Jackson some run with the 1's at left guard, and he (predictably) outplayed Khalif Barnes who had 2 penalties. Jackson should absolutely start, and Barnes is a guy that, though average at best, can play 4 positions on the line. That versatility is best used as a reserve. Once Jackson's move to the first team becomes permanent, the O-line will be set, and will be the strength of our offense. Crazy turnaround from last year.

    - The receivers did the same . there were a couple of blatantly dropped passes. There were also 3 separate occasions where they caught the ball but couldn't get their feet inbounds in the endzone. all 3 could have been touchdowns. Greg Little did it twice.

    - Carr was the bright spot of the day imo. He showed the same overall poise he did in week 1, which is the main thing i want to see. Quick decisions, no patting the ball, no happy feet at the sight of a pass rush. But unlike week 1 he made some downfield throws, got a TD. they rolled him out a few times and he looked great. He also suffered from 2 drops, one on a good downfield throw, one on a short third down. Unfortunately they left him in with the 3rd team to give him a 2 minute drill, and he got blindsided, the DE landed on top of him, and he got concussed. Should be ok, but stupid to let him get beat up like that.

    - corners... they might have to bench Tarrel Brown for 7th round pick TJ Carrie, who actually has impressed. They're literally hoping DJ Hayden comes back and is starting caliber, which he wasn't last year.

    - the line looks fine, they get some pressure, Mack got a sack, etc. The corners are going to be holding this team back on defense, the receivers will on offense

I was excited to see my dog MJD revive his career in Oak town and couldn't help but notice that your O-line is purely built for run blocking. It showed when ever Shaub would get in a long yard situation the oline could not pass block for . But'ill admit that I ave not watched much raider football recently. The only thing is that I have seen a lot of ty pass protection from the Jaguars over the years that it really stood out to me. Hopefully they rebuild that oline or Carr aint gonna last.

yeah its a massive run-blocking line... average weight north of 325 pounds iirc .

the offense is going to lean heavily on MJD, McFadden, and Reece... both as runners and receivers out of the backfield

Any guesses on a new name for the skins? How about the Washington Monuments. Or maybe the Washington Politicos or the Washington Lobbyists. I'm partial to the Washington o's...

here we go again... Matt Flynn is repeating itself

Although not expressed after the game, Schaub randomly missed today's practice with a "sore elbow" and Carr got all the first team reps.

Same EXACT happened last year, where Flynn randomly had a "sore elbow" and missed practice, and next thing we knew, Pryor was named the starter

Matt Schaub is now battling a "sore elbow" at Raiders camp.

An arm injury doesn't explain Schaub's inability to move or make sound decisions, but could be telling in regards to his noticeable shortage of arm strength. Schaub has looked genuinely Matt Flynnian in preseason games. Perhaps the sore elbow will be the excuse Dennis Allen needs to put Schaub out of his misery. He's been outplayed by rookie Derek Carr throughout August.

we're ready tbh ... we have the most cap space in the NFL again next offseason, and thats not including an additional 8 mil we're going to save by jettisoning schaub

You had all that cap space this past offseason, you ended up losing Veldheer, and all you got was a bunch of players who used to be good five years ago

apparently veldheer wanted to talk. the raiders offered him more than Arizona did. not much you can do about that. he's a good player but not a franchise tag caliber player. as you saw in what you posted earlier, players currently aren't banging the door down to play for oakland unless they get overpaid... and reggie mckenzie isn't really big on that. instead of overpaying guys, he signed veterans who can start. our best signing was probably Austin Howard who will be starting on our line for years to come. he also picked up guys like woodley, tuck, MJD who can still play, and dont come with bloated contracts.

the idea behind it is to try to get the "stink" off the franchise tbh, so we dont have to overpay guys to come over. get some guys who can play who can fill in decently, build through the draft, and hopefully you get in a situation where the team looks decent on the field and show promise (lets say Carr comes in and has a solid rookie year and the raiders go somewhere like 7-9). that would make it a more attractive spot for free agents.

our stadium/city situation also doesn't help, but it looks like Davis is done with oakland, he said he's no longer open to renewing the lease which expires this year.

i kinda dig what the raiders did this year, but some stuff just calls for a anyway.. @ 8M for shaub, @ losing your starting tackle while offering more money, @ having your entire past draft company being on IR all the time..

yeah the schaub thing pissed me off. don't get me wrong, i was saying we need a veteran stopgap, and i even mentioned schaub as one of the guys i'd go after, but trading for him was moronic because:
    a) he was going to get cut anyway
    b) by trading for him instead of signing him you are inheriting his salary
    c) a rebuilding team shouldn't deal draft picks for temporary guys... even if it was just a 6th
