The Grizzlies might as well start making plans for next year after hater's kiss of death.

Grizzlies were bit by the injury bug. To claim that they would have been this bad with everyone healthy makes you look foolish. They are still in 5th in the conference behind the usual suspects.

Exactly this. Plagued by injuries, only four games out of a first-round bye in the west.

Pretty crazy how many injuries. If they were at full strength it would be a matchup most teams would want to avoid.

why nostalgia fans keep saying "if they would be healthy..." what have they done with that roster to receive that kind of respect or praise?

They've a core that's been around for years and peaked maybe two years ago. They play the an hesis of modern basketball. Their biggest problem (outside shooting) has been their perennial weakness.

Even the playoffs are no longer grit and grind it out games anymore, the idea that "they're better built for the playoffs" is demonstrably false. Spurs with the "beautiful basketball" and the Dubs last year have shown you need a much more dynamic makeup.

Also for a team that supposedly hang their hat on grinding out games, their defense never reached top 3 in a season. Even when fully healthy and at their peak, they flamed out with a sweep in the WCF.

They've always been a solid team, a piece or two away from being contenders, but at this point that ship has sailed for that core, IMO.

FWIW, I'm not sure Mike Conley is coming back for them. I heard the Knicks here are ready to give him an offer he would be silly to refuse...

I still would try to avoid them tbh. Matt Barnes is still alive.

still, bumping this thread is like bumping a thread that said Spurs with Kawhi will kick ass and then Kawhi breaks his foot.

still.... I would still try to avoid this team. Matt Barner tbqh

You're talking what they've done in recent years without much mention of what they're doing right now. Not really a stretch to think they could have been third in the west with a little better health. Not sure if that's enough to get them past SA or GS, but it certainly validates OP a little bit.

That's just because teams like Dallas, Houston and Portland have been abysmal this season compared to years past, not because the Grizzlies have shown anything different. If anything, they already started shaking up their roster by moving Courtney Lee and Jeff Green.

OP is a poorly thought troll job about Matt Barnes, that, as is common with the OP, backfired terribly, tbh..

Their record wasn't good, even when healthy..

The only reason it even looks decent now is because the West is atrocious following the top 4 teams..

Their record was poor, even when healthy

They have the 17th ranked SRS in the NBA, they're a below average team..
