I don't know that I'd call the squad mediocre, but the fact that there is no backup for Suarez (who was Lyon's best player) and Alba is frightening.

Not true at all, that would easily be Ronaldo.
I can't think of a single elite player who can completely not show up for a Final and win so many of them thanks to his teammates as he has. Completely in 2014, 2016, and 2018 Finals of CL and injurd in Euro 2016 and yet his teammates could still pick up the slack. Ronaldo absolutely had the benefit of not needing to be 10/10 in a final match and still walking away with trophies.
And yes, they don't get to those finals without him, but Ramos, Benzema and Marcelo are on the all time list for most CL goals or most CL goals by a defender. Can't say that for any other Barca player besides Messi.

United went to the CL final without him and they won the league without him. Portugal won a euro final without Ronaldo.
