I really hate the "it's just a TV show" argument... I mean, you could use it with any piece of crap on television.
I can see Scott's complaint. Some people may not care if a show is realistic/believeable, and more power to them. No one says it has to be. But part of the appeal to fans in the beginning was the believeability of the 24-hour timeline and relative believeability of the plot.
While I'm not saying Season 5 COULDN'T have happened in real life, I would say that all of the twists and the constant barrage of new characters and mounting body counts cheapen the suspense of the show. I like the suspense and story to build over several episodes.
For me, it's sort of like 90's Metallica vs. 80's Metallica... I liked 90's Metallica, but I knew they could do better based on what they did in the 80's. Later Metallica, like this season's 24, was more of a guilty pleasure.
