No truer words were spoken than "The only reason kids do anything, is because other are doing it."

If others have wristbands and hand signs that signify what sexual act they are willing to perform, so do others. That , right there, junior high, is real.

    I was blown away.

I'm not trying to scare anyone.

This all started because someone couldn't believe that a 9 year old can figure out what "I'll lick you like a lollipop" means.

A very big thing that you don't seem to understand about young children unless you deal with them on a daily basis is that they are very literal. They don't get innuendo or sarcasm until they are a little older and they don't have enough life experience to get the connection unless their perv little 13 year old cousin fills them in ... so the first thing they are going to think of when you say lollipop is candy, you little deviant trying to look like a bad ass.

Of course he's already looking at girls, and he knows he likes them ... he already has a little girlfriend. He just doesn't know what he's supposed to do with them yet. As it should be. Things might be different and I might have more grey hair around this time next year, but for right now he's still my little innocent baby.

I understand that SpursWoman, but how easy is it for a 9 year old to turn on the TV???

Knowing that MTV, MTV2, BET, VH1, all the channels that show videos, and how much they overplay 50 cent videos, they are bound to catch a video every now and then, don't you think???

Maybe when they see the video and see chicks that are half-naked dancing up on 50 and hooking up with him on a bed, they understand that the song isn't about lollipops.

After seeing that and they still think the song is about lollipops, I'm sorry, they aren't very bright.

No, it's all on my nephew. Like all the porn he showed them how to look up that we found in our cache.

There's a lot of things that I didn't know about until my 15 year old cousins (male and female) both filled me in ... not that I'm obscure, but there are quite a few things going around in Junior High and High School that are pretty f'ed up for kids those age.

Both know they'd get disowned by my entire family if they do something stupid, though I know both of them have done more things than society says they should ... which is really screwed up, but what can you do? The more you tell a kid not to think about/do it, they want to.

MTV, etc., is blocked in my house. For one thing, it's stupid now. User is actually worse (better?) about nipping that in the bud than I am....he's sabotaged both of their TV's.

So, do you still think it's outrageously unbelievable that kids know more than you think?

I know what my kids know because I talk to them. And that's all that matters to me.

Things always happened. Today schools are just more conscious and sensitive. I lost count of the number of athletes' jock straps that got sling-shotted onto my table at lunch in high school, but today, I bet those guys would be in awful trouble. Never phased me- I had brothers- but some of the girls would squeal to the guys delight. Me-- I'd just make jokes about how small it was!!

Like all the scandals with teachers and students- I know more than one person that occurred with, but back then, no one said anything.

I'm guessing those are blocked because she doesn't want her kids watching episodes of "NEXT" with lesbians dry humping each other or the countdown of the "best songs to have Sex to".

I don't believe he was talking to me, but I really don't GAF what you let your kids watch, but mine aren't watching that. And I haven't watched those channels in at least 15 years because all they show is garbage and it's a total waste of my time.

I'm not a parent yet, but here's how I see myself addressing my MTV-age children when the time comes...

I mock it. I make them feel like complete idiots for watching it. I point out every minute flaw and annoyance. It worked with me... I watched Saved By the Bell once with my dad and it was humiliating. Of course, that wasn't exactly a raunchy show, but it was popular with kids my age...

Blocking shows or taking CDs away never really worked for me. It just made me want it more and I eventually moved on to the harder stuff like "Models, Inc." and Slayer.

So we'll see how that goes with Kid#1, and if that doesn't work... It's all-out blockage.

Damn, did I hit a nerve? I wasn't mocking you, I was just being honest/sarcastic about the crap your kids are "missing out on".

The humiliation tactic could work with inappropriate clothing, too... Has anyone confronted their daughter's provocative attire by asking, "Who's are you planning to suck tonight?"

Does that work? I'm trying to get tips here...

I refused to let my kids watch the Teletubbies with that exact same technique...that has to have been the stupidest show on the planet. At least watching Barney they taught little lessons.

And I'm sure they've managed to watch MTV or whatever at some point, but if I'm going to make it easy for them.

Be interested in it yourself and then they won't be.
