Spain was just the better team in the end. This team is already a proven winner so it's not SO bad. It just would have been sweet to see them go all the way.
I'm not saying anything is on him. Manu did a fine job. I simply made an observation on what caliber of player he is going to be.
As good of a game as Manu have, he wasn't the game changer Gasol was. He was that kind of game changer before, but I don't think he has it in him anymore. Thats not a knock on him.

Exactly.
To be fair, Spain knows this Argentina team inside and out. I don't anticipate seeing Manu have many 6-21 nights in the NBA anytime soon. He's too smart for the NBA to struggle badly, and he'd have more open teammates than what Spain allowed.
Ah gotcha. I think that has to do with Manu's approach and the coach's use of his play. This season he kinda just did what he needed to do but they didn't run the offense through him as much like in the 04 games. And Pop kinda didn't rely on him this year either cuz of his injuries and Parker being the scorer.
That's weak. Whether the offense runs through him or not, from '03-'05 he just hammered it on people. He posterized people. Now it's floaters and lay-up city.
I just don't get it. It's not like he wasn't injured before. Barry called him El Contusion in '04-'05, and he had no problem slamming it on Amare and the Pistons all day.
wow..this finals match is totally unexpected. it hurts that argentina lost because i really wanted manu to take the Naismith Cup. But a Spain-Greece matchup really shows the miracles of team basketball.
Greece can totally win this, Gasol's hurt.
Man, ing losing. Now the Gold Medal game will not be worth watching. I hate both teams for taking out the two teams I wanted to see go for gold! This year sucks for Spurs basketball fans.
That said, my money's on Greece.
anyway, what happened that made argentina go to the intentional foul? what was the situation then? and was chapu's last shot a jumper?
ah well, good night folks. There's officially nothing to talk about for Spurs fans until October.
I couldn't disagree more.
They just decided to foul the point guard before he reached, with a half court trap. It was the Coach's call.
Nothing happened. It was just a coaching decision. The guy with the ball isn't a good FT shooter, and they gambled that he would miss at least one. I guess they didn't want to take their chances in OT with both Manu and Chapu with 4 fouls.
And yes, Chapu's last shot was a jumper, off a Manu pass, from the baseline.
I know I know... I'm just so sick of the familiarity with a team that is JUST a little bit better than yours and beats your team, and one of your favorite players by one point. It's like a mental relapse.
I'm glad Argentina didn't get blown out in the first half though.

Spain was leading by how many when they fouled him? sorry, i'm a bit confused.
they were tied. 74-74 i think, sounds stupid huh?
OT is a much better alternative than a missed game winner/loser
oh, man. it didn't hurt as much when i didn't know...didn't they trust their defense?...sigh ignorance is bliss
If you still think the problem comes from the talent of players... you are a moron. Individual talent is not the problem. Wade, Melo, Lebron, Howard... are better than any Greek.
Remember how good TD looked in 2004.
In a FIBA game, I guess Shaq would be fouled out in 5 minutes. Kobe would try to break a zone all by himself and finished shooting 3/32. If USA want to win they just have to learn FIBA-games.
if that's what happened, how the could anyone blame manu? granted he had a bad shooting night but i gather no one else played that great. if it was tied at the last seconds and they committed that foul, it's totally on the coach. wth
The loss is on the coach, when you think about the variables. Spain had a hurt Gasol!
For anyone wanting to relive the day, NBA TV is playing Greece v. US right now and Argentina v. Spain afterwards.
I don't wanna see the Bronze game tomorrow now.
