Magic Jack - New Phone Service

ok, new here. Purchased a magicjack almost a month ago. Still aint workin right. Intermittent audio. 3 different pc's and phones still tha same.

Drops calls too. Right now they're workin on replacing it for me.. I'll keep you posted. Too bad too. I'm all set up to sell these things for these guys but i'm getting a little scared. Tech support needs some work. 20 different chat sessions had everyone sending me in frustrating circles.

Considered putting it in the blender but it doesnt like technology.

MagicJack EXPLODES and catches fire?

Only my second post in response to the magicjack thing. I've seen a lot of complaints about this product and I jumped on the Negative bandwagon cuz I had nothing but problems for 5 days.

I spent hours and hours on the tech chat with these guys and fiddled with 3 different computers to get it to work. Seemed like nobody knew what they were doing over there. I've never been so frustrated by a product before. Probly because I really wanted this fantastic - easy to use (coughs) invention to work.

Was the blue light on? Yes. Was it plugged in? Duh! Was my computer on? LOL. How do you tech chat without it on I thought. Some amazing questions made me envision elephants moaning and clowns running and juggling in circles over at the MagicJack telephone centre.


The idea is simple. Plug it in and start dialing? Not quite. How? You really need to use a clean computer without all the adware and spyware that you get from music and movie download sites. Turn off your firewall for the magicjack program itself also. Make sure background svc's are selected in your networking advanced features.

Guess what?

After all those days and hours of monkeying around with this peice of so called crap, after minutes of searching for an old workboot to beat it like a pesky fly, and after several seconds of deep thought about how it would look on level 10 in my old microwave - I go and restart my pc and guess what happened?

It exploded into several peices and caught my computer on fire!
I am now typing this with my nose. Bandages come off soon.
Actually I'm just kidding - I actually got it to work.

I don't know how the tech support put up with my nasty rants but they hung in there and helped me figure this thing out. It's easy to jump to conclusions and lay blame, but in this world of nasty software and malware a device like this may have issues regarding installation.

The sound quality is just fine. If it keeps working all the stress and aggravation will still be worth it to me as long as the rates stay the same.

Quick update since my last post...

I took my laptop and magicjack to a different location with wireless internet. I could not get it to work. Cut in and out so bad i couldn't understand anyone.

Came back home, plugged it in and presto. It seems my clarity and connection is getting even better since it started working at all. I forgot to mention in the last post that I had a couple of minor static noises on the line but heck I've even had that on my landline. They were very faint clicks or something but it looks like things are getting better and better!

If anything changes I will post it. Until then, Go Spurs!

i got two magic jacks and paid 100 dollars cash
i installed on my pc and i started calling the usa for free , just my internet connection
so the jack cost i got back already in the first two calls
the rest is gravy .....
i even took my other jack to afriend in costa rica
he called puerto rico for free , land fone
he called my jack in panama for free
that device is the fone companies worst nightmare
because u can make endless fone calls for free within the usa
the quality of the call for land line is much better than cellular
but , u can never regret buying that jack ....

one note of advice

if u see some one un happy about a magic jack experience
just ask him for what fone company is he a s ?

I've had the magicjack for a few months now.
I waned to use more phones off the magicjack but I did not have cordless phones.
So I pluged the MJ into my house jack after I canceled my old service and now I can use any corded phone in my house.... I love this product.. I cant believe a product on a infomercial works so well....

If your Magic Jack isn't working simply use the special Magic Jack chant "Go Spurs Go" until you recieve a stable connection. Unplugging, and re-plugging the device will not work unless you use the Special Magic Jack chant.

I know it will shock you that I found this by googling Magic Jack. First page BTW. Actually, I googled "Does Magic Jack work?" In defense of the noobs (who do seem to be spamming); it took more than a few posts before I realized this was a Spurs fan site.

I was so entertained that I decided to join. I'm not huge on the NBA; but as teams go - I like the Spurs. I chose the Bobcats as my team. (I know they suck.) I am really a Tar Heel fan and prefer college ball.

Thanks for the laughs. I feel much less interested in the Magic Jack now.

I just did a google and it is now no.2.

Here is my 99 cents worth.

I purchased mj back in march or april and it worked the first day and the day after. Everytime I pick up that phone I get a dail tone.

This month I purchased 2 more mj's one for myself and one for my brother in another state. I pluged mine in and it worked first time.

My first mj is still in use. i used a splitter and ran a cord to my neighbors.
They are in long distance heaven. Only missed a beat once. I just unpluged it waited 2 minutes and pluged it back in. It worked!!!

Now my brother has issues...He has cordless phones all over the house
and when he pluged in the base unit it would only ring on that unit and not the other phones.

Guess why? He did not unplug the telephone landline.
Has he resolved this issue? I don't know. I searched online and at mj site for an answer and emailed him the results.

Now it is up to him to figure out how to make it work throughout the house.

Magic Jack is so good that I am preparing to sell them to everyboy I see.

I am new here, which seems to be unpopular but I am going to spend my opinion. I have been watching Magic Jack ads for over a year. I spend two months a year away from home and was interested in finding a way to call my kids and grandkids without breaking the bank. As I said, I have been keeping track of Magic Jack for awhile. I didn't want to buy it from the web site so as soon as Radio Shack and Best Buys started selling it, I bought one. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and everything works fine. I get a nice clear connection. I did have trouble once, I lost connection while talking to my grandson. I unplugged the Magic Jack and plugged it back in. In about a minute I called my grandson again and finished my hour long conversation. When I get back home, I am going to call ATT and cancel my "unlimited" long distance service. I figure what I save on that monthly charge and what I saved on my long distance calling my kids, Magic Jack will have paid for itself. I have also purchased a Magic Jack for my son. He likes it too.
When you buy from a store, you can always take it back if you can't get it to work. You really have nothing to lose. And NO, I don't work for Magic Jack.

WTF everyone is all up on this because of long distance? I mean if it's in the USA and not into Canada don't most cell phones have long distance already?

Don't give me "I don't have a cell phone" because you have a laptop and Internet when you are traveling so you should have a decent phone co and plan.

If you used it at home, isn't cricket/pocket free long distance also and you have the phone on you at all times not just at home.

I would only get this if Mexico was included that way my dad can call his family because that can still cost some cash as thing are now.

Description
I decided to incorporate several of the apps I have written into an easy to use GUI. It includes the SIP Info checker, MJ Upgrader, and some other nice features.

Regarding the SIP Info checker, it will pull your SIP credentials from your MagicJack. This is purely for educational purposes and should NOT be used to cir vent your MJ hardware. This is against their TOS and should not be done.

Instructions

1. Unzip the folder and put it where ever you like on your system.

2. Once done, you can run MagicJackSuite.exe and go from there.

3. Update the config from the GUI

4. (Optional) - Create a shortcut to MagicJackSuite.exe on your desktop. This will make it easier to run in the future.


Bugs
Not really sure if its a bug or not, but sometimes you have to run the SIP Checker app more than once to get the SIP data. It really has to do with the timing of pulling the SIP data when magicjack starts. Since different systems run this at different speeds, its hard to determine a time value that works across the board.
See version 1.5 update as there was a bug in some versions before it.

Don't sweat being new. Any clubby message board usually has some jerks in it that will razz newcomers, but by and large people here are pretty friendly, much like the city of San Antonio itself.

The interesting thing about the Spurs' style of play is that they tend to attract a different kind of fan, than a lot of other teams, i.e. they tend to be a bit more laid back and a bit more mature. That may sound like a biased statement, but it is simply my observation from my experience with other teams' message boards.

I bought the Magic Jack a year ago. It does work but I have to say the quality is bad. Some days I don't get calls at all it just go to voice mail. I've never had a problem with using 911. What can you say when you only pay 19.99 a year. I always keep minutes on my cell as a back up.
