That was not a dig on Bass, he very well could be an answer to the Mavs problems against small ball teams. It is just it appears that Mono took his production as the only positive of this game for the Mavs.
there's plenty of other positives. Josh Howard is always a positive. Devin Harris played great. Dirk played great until his mini-chokejob at the end. But I saw everytime Bass was in there, the Mavs seemed to make a run. And when they pissed their lead away, guess who was in there looking like a head - Dampier.

Yeah, I think Bass has been a steal, equivalent to a top-10 pick. I'm guessing he just couldn't get playing time behind West and Chandler. But he's never come close to playing rotation minutes for 82 games + a playoff run. Avery needs to limit his minutes so he doesn't hit a wall.

But your team will still beat GS or PHX thanks to the contributions of Brandon Bass.
Mavs cant beat GS....they can beat the Spurs....and its a toss up against the Suns. WE already know the Suns cant beat the Spurs and I highly doubt they could beat the Warriors in a series

From what I have seen of him he has been a steal. It is just I have always been weary of undersized PF's. But the league is getting smaller and faster so this shouldn't be much of a problem anymore.

this was a game we should have won easily and in typical Mavs fashion we queefed a big lead away and got lucky to win.

and after two plus years of this , this team has taken away all of my faith in them.
I turned to my buddy after the end of the first quarter and I told him that Phoenix would make a run and get back into it and would probably take the lead at some point. They're never out of a game and they don't stay down. A 17-point lead on them is like an 8 point lead against anybody else. We did enough to win and we were better than they were tonight.

The Mavs have desperately needed somebody who can score in the paint. As Ortegal would say, Bass can do that, and sometimes Damp can when he doesn't have grease all over his fingers.

On the flip side of that, we didn't have too much trouble scoring on them tonight. They couldn't get stops whenever they needed one. Did they even have a lead tonight? They can't rebound either.

Rx for beating Phoenix: Control the glass, chase their shooters off the 3-point line, be physical and you can win. They match up real well with us, we just don't have an answer at all for Nash and Amare on the pic-n-roll. I hope they do blow it up and trade Amare in order to get better on d because we can't stop that, and they ran it repeatedly in crunch time to get back in the game.

But you have to admit, if we want to beat the Suns in a 7 game series...this type of "defense" isnt going to cut it. I am not going to lie. I would rather face the Spurs over the Suns if it was up to me. hey at least your boy dasunsfan should be giving his ratings rant sometime soon.

I agree. Mainly because I don't like Dirk having to guard Marion on defense. Against San Antonio, Dirk can hide on Oberto, Elson, or Bowen.

In a seven-game series against Phoenix, I'd have to give them a slight edge because of Nash and Amare on the pic and roll and the way Nash has a bug up his ass against Dallas, like he's playing for his freedom out there or gamblers are holding his twin daughters hostage. But it's not out of the question that we can hold our own and beat them.

That scares me. Watching Dirk guarding an athletic offensive player gives me chills.

god that grant hill dunk on diop was sick, I hope that makes top 10
I know it was sick and it should get you up out of your seats...but did you see the way the Suns started celebrating like they had just won the Finals? They were still down by double digits at the time.

I am hard pressed to decide whom I would least mind seeing win tonight.

A part of me wants the Mavs to lose because I can't stand them and I am so mad about Avery's upcoming jersey retirement.

I want what is best for the Spurs in the standings but that is pretty much a toss up at this point.

    Decisions, decisions.
Which team has more ty Euro players? That should help guide your decision-making process.

It was definitely a flop, but the way Van Gundy reacted like Devin Harris just ordered the Tet Offensive made me sick.
I usually like Van Gundy but he was way overboard tonight. He didn't get nearly as animated over that horrible flop by Amare towards the end.

We're up 98-86. Avery takes out Devin for Terry and Stack comes in the game. The Suns go on 6-0 run. Can somebody please tell me why Avery took Devin out for Terry? Holy .
Avery learned a lesson tonight. Nash and Amare started working that pnr like magic once Devin went out.

Suns should run the pick and roll with Amare and Nash and the mavs have no way to stop it..thats what they went to in the 4tth quarter and it killed the mavs. it always has and always will. you cant switch it bc nash will take damp, you cant go under the pick bc nash will shoot, and if your undecisive Nash will throw it to Amare....

Suns coaching staff are idiots....why not run the piclk and roll the whole game if the mavs are defenseless against it

That's why someone like Bass is key for a matchup like this. He has the size, strength, quickness, and athleticism to both guard Amare, or step up on Nash.

I knew this was coming. They come off a big win in San Antonio and they have a letdown vs the Mavs. But I will take Nash in that position to tie the game every time. More often then not that shot goes in. At least the remaining 2 game with the Mavs are in Phoenix.

the pick n roll is deadly when ran by amare and nash...while bass helps a little it, if he is switched onto nash, all nash has to do is throw it to Amare who has devin/terry on him. Bass can step up to nash, but then he will get burned.

That was funny though. Is Amare taking lessons from Manu?

each team only plays 3 or 4 teams within there conference 3 times due to the Bobcats coming into the league a few years back

I predict a Phoenix victory by about 15 points at the least....this team usually tears Dallas apart...so it won't be much of a surprise.
Let's see...we knocked them out of the playoffs in '06. We split the series last year, and blew one of the games at the end and lost in OT....

Seriously, Damp basher -- did you actually view the entire game? He really wasn't bad tonight until the end.
You're right. Dampier actually played really well last night overall.
