I was talking to Kori early about the airlift. It just didn't make any sense to me to drop sand from the air because the water would wash it away before you got back to add more to it.
Yet, they tried it and what happend?
The water washed it away.
The level of the lake is above the level of the city. Even when the water goes down, they'll have to rebuild the levy and pump water out or it isn't going anywhere.

I need to restock my SHTF kit... yes us paranoid right wingers love to hord drinking water and extra ammo.
Ya never know....
Put your maid to work, cracka.
I think I'd need a beer after that crap happened to my house.
WGAF? How is he supposed to go buy a beer anyways?
Well, if you think about it, the really smart civil engineers are making six figures in the private sector, so...
Listening to the lady who is talking from the Tulane University Hospital is very sad. They can't get out and they have no running water at the hospital (the water is contaminated with sewage) ... and she said that people are looting their (hospital workers') cars in the parking lot.Only twenty patients were able to be taken out of the hospital today.
I rescued my dog a while back, am involved with animal rescue here, and was literally about a minute away from donating to UAN when I read your post. I'd rather it go to an organization that I know has Katrina refugees and do something nice for you guys at the same time.
Deal? If not, find me their website so I can donate directly.
That one guy with the Heinies... he can live for a month off that haha.
Well if he drinks one a day. Ok we all know that's not gonna happen..
I wonder if there is any left...
Hum I am thristy now for a beer.
How about you make a contribution and we'll pay for our own dog. That way they'll get double the money.
Here's the info, you can probably call them and find out how to contribute ...

At least this will give the kids a semblance of normalcy.11:28 P.M. - (AP) LAFAYETTE, La. -- Parents who had to evacuate because of Hurricane Katrina will be able to register their children for school in Lafayette Parish starting tomorrow.
Burnell Lemoine, deputy superintendent and chief academic officer for the Lafayette Parish School System, says registration ends Thursday and parents will be contacted Friday to let them know what school their children should attend.
He says students should be in classes by Tuesday. The children will be assigned to current schools depending on where they are in homes or shelters.
Thanks. I can't find an online donation form, so I'll call them in the morning. Unless one of you guys see it somewhere.
I couldn't find an online form either.

Damn, there has got to be some way to get in portable cell phone towers, or use some kind of communications platform from the military flying overhead to receive cell phone signals.
Some good news... the water has receded enough at the airport for them to start bringing in planes. Gonna boat people to the airport and fly them out.
The guy on WDSU makes being in the Superdome sound worse than being outside. Those poor ing people.
"Do they know they're trapped in there?"
"They know that they can't go anywhere without a boat, so yeah."
These aren't damage pictures, but I think they are rather amazing. They were taking from the RECON flights that fly into the hurricane in order to gather data. They provide the best source of information on the storm and have to be brave as to fly through a storm packing winds that strong.

Thats for the rest of the photos.
AP: cop shot in head by looters, hence the crackdown on looters.
Crazy, inside the eye from the hurricane hunter plane.

Something that really irked me during the hurricane, why does every news channel feel its neccessary to send a crew to cover the storm??
Damn... now KCAL her in LA is pimping the looting angle. They also showed video of what looked like the causeway across Lake Ponchatrain is shambles.... at least that's the bridge I'm guessing it was since I couldn't see any trees, homes, etc in the distance.
Yeah, those pictures are amazing.
I think this one is my favorite. So much structure.

Amazing pic, and people thought they could ride that out *shakes head*
That was the Twin Spans bridge that goes from NO to Slidell, LA (I-10).They also showed video of what looked like the causeway across Lake Ponchatrain is shambles.... at least that's the bridge I'm guessing it was since I couldn't see any trees, homes, etc in the distance.
That is evil, first they have that hurricane displace them, then they have to sit through a WNBA game. Not cool.
