China is the US's largest trading partner. Ordering US businesses to find some other market to sell in is unrealistic, to say nothing of high-handed.

In this best of all possible economies, 1 out of 7 bankruptcies is a person over 65 -- a fivefold increase in that cohort over 25 years. The 2008 crash has something to do with that.

Ordinarily, I like to say that presidents can't move the macroeconomic needle, but wrecking trade with our biggest partner right when the rest of the world seems ready to tip into recession -- plus whatever other chaos DJT petulantly throws into the stew -- could tip us into recession, which would be bad for the country and bad for DJT.

Fed Chair Jay Powell didn't blow a $1.5 trillion hole in US fiscal revenues without any corresponding rise in economic growth. Jay Powell isn't alienating our most important trading partner without regard to US businesses with Chinese supply chains and markets. That's all Trump. , he's about to lay tariffs on the EU.

If you had, you'd know that tariff wars can be -- and usually are -- a lose-lose proposition. No winners.
