“Unprecedented”: 9 historians on why Trump’s war with the FBI is so stunning
“I can’t think of a single time any president has done anything like this.”
I reached out to nine historians to ask if there is a precedent for something like this.
There’s nothing new about tension between the FBI and the president,
but it seems unusual for a president to so publicly challenge the independence of the bureau and the Justice Department.
Mainly, I was curious to know if we’ve entered uncharted territory — and will this undermine the independence of the FBI and the Justice Department?
Their full responses, lightly edited for clarity and style, are below.

I appreciate your input on "douchness"
Just asking him to follow thru with his own claim to start a new thread basically as a moderator ain't gonna do , quite obviously and I have never even had contact with one....Not one message sent or received.
Thanks for your concern. If anything seems y, I know you are here to put it right.
The Great Boutons doesnt moderate threads, and ignores the bulk of most threads (and posters) that have become moronic, childish pissing matches
You'd know where women won't get tattoos, seeing how you're transitioning.

Only GOP House member to actually read the intelligence, pans the memo, backs Mueller

Replying to @TGowdySC
While this memo raises serious concerns with the FISA process,
I have been and remain confident in the overwhelming majority of the men and women serving at the FBI and DOJ.

As I have said repeatedly, I also remain 100 percent confident in Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
The contents of this memo do not - in any way - discredit his investigation.

Plenty of facts, actually -- and Carter Page isn't the President.
Inside the FBI: Anger, worry, work — and fears of lasting damage
In the 109 years of the FBI’s existence, it has repeatedly come under fire for abuses of power, privacy or civil rights.
From Red Scares to recording and threatening to expose the private conduct of Martin Luther King Jr. to benefiting from bulk surveillance in the digital age, the FBI is accustomed to intense criticism.
What is so unusual about the current moment, say current and former law enforcement officials, is the source of the attacks.
The bureau is under fire ... from ... conservatives who have long been the agency’s biggest supporters, as well as the president who handpicked the FBI’s leader.
Republican critics charge that the birth of the investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and agents of the Russian government was
fatally infected by the political bias of senior FBI officials — and
President Trump tweeted Saturday that the release of a memo on the issue “totally vindicates ‘Trump.’ ”
Bureau officials say the accusations in the do ent produced by House Republicans are inaccurate and — more damaging in the long term —
corrode the agency’s ability to remain independent and do its job.

The last thing the All-Politics-All-The-Time fascist authoritarian Repugs want is an FBI that "remains independent", or for any laws, regulations, rules that apply to Repugs or the oligarchy to be enforced or even to exist.
The oligarchy's coup d'etat, just like Trash's Sat Night Massacre, is, has been, well under way and succeedingAmerica is ed and un able
