Spain was lightyears better in 08. 2010 we closed the gap a bit, but couldn't climb over the hill. If Löw hadn't ed with our lineup 2012 and we didn't the bed against Italy I think we would have had a decent chance to win against Spain.

They still would have been the favorite but we would have had a chance.

In that scheme you need to swotch Müller with Özil. I also think that Löw would go with Khedira instead of either Reus or Götze and possibly let either/or play as striker in certain games. He tried it a couple of times in the last few games.
You think Schmelzer at LB though?

I understand the need for Khediera for more defensive strength in the MF... but Gotze and Reus are too good (and will only be better a year from now) to sit. Good to have depth. Either would be fantastic in super-sub role

Germany was a very different team in 2008 than they were in 2010, and 2014 will be even significantly more different. I'm a little concerned who will start at LB and ST for Germany, but other than they are pretty ing solid.

I imagine they will play some form of a 4-5-1. If they want to be more attacking, it will look like this:

    -----------------Gomez??------------------
    ---Gotze----Reus--------Muller------Ozil----
    --------------Schweinsteiger---------------
    --Schmelzer?--Badstuber--Hummels--Lahm--
    ------------------Neuer--------------------

If you want to be more defensive, go to a 4-2-3-1 with Kediera. On the bench you also have Kroos, Podolski, Klose? and youngsters like Schurrle, Marin, Holtby, etc. If not Badstuber at CB, then Boateng or Howedes.

Don't know who else would play LB if not Schmelzer. Not a lot of German fullback depth right now that I'm aware of, which makes it weird that Fabian Johnson and Timmy Chandler were so easily allowed to go play for the US.

Anyway... the 2006 WC and 2008 EC squads were still relying on Ballack, Metzelder, Mertesaker, etc. Much different team today, lots of young talent.
Ozil shouldnt pay on the RW, as we saw vs Dortmund; not confy at all for him

I would go with this :

    -----------------Gomez------------------
    ---Reus----Muller-------Ozil------Gotze----
    --------------Schweinsteiger---------------
    --Schmelzer?--Badstuber--Hummels--Lahm--
    ------------------Neuer---

The German NT has a bunch of mental midgets

They're probably the most mentally tough team throughout history, they never give up. Hence the 2 goals in extra time to beat Malaga.

As am I because I'm talking about German teams in general, NT and club. They have great chemistry, believe in their way of playing, and don't give up. Dortmund is mostly a bunch of Germans.

Dortmund'S Polish players are as importants as their German Internationals

Spain NT mostly consists of Bartha players, so they have an ven better chemistry

Yes to Schmelzer, but only because we're really thin @LB.

You're also right about Götze and Reus being too good to sit, hence Löw's experiment to play either or (but most likely Götze) in a kind of Barca-Messi role.

Correct, Özil needs to play in the middle. But switch Müller with Götze. Müller played RW for Bayern and the NT most of the time, he's comfortable with that position. And Götze often played LW for Dortmund.

I thought Reus played LW often for Dortmund
    (I may be wrong lol)

Regarding the Full Backs positions, I believe Lahm has already played LB for the NT

So you could have him as a LB, and Boateng as a RB

Yeah, but often is not always...

Lahm has played and could play LB, but he's even better at RB and wants to play there. And if you have to choose between Boateng or Schmelzer for the open positio, ten times out of ten you pick Schmelzer.

Sorry to turn this into a German MNT thread... but at least it gives us something to talk about until next week's matches... what is Badstuber's status right now? I didn't notice him on the game day roster last week. Is he injured? I like Howedes and Boateng also, but Badstuber is a beast.

I would go with Khedira, Schweinsteiger, Reus, Özil, Götze and a striker (Müller (can be switched with Reus), Gomez, Klose, Schürrle).

The Germans have a bright future!

Nah, (not yet). Khedira is a big part of what the Germans do. Does the dirty work for Özil.

There is also Jese and Jose Rodriguez, i like them both. Jose is gonna be good if he gets a chance.

    Casimero is just on loan...

Tello stopped dribbling the football between his feet and he's become a bit more effective as a scorer.

History maybe, but not the current German squad. The important players the bed more than once, be it for their respective clubs or for the NT.
