Hey Manny, before I forget, congrats on today I imagine Obama's victory had a lot to do with volunteers like you. How does it feel to help make history?
I really wanted to come back to this, so here we go.

Its a bit easier now to put things into perspective. As I hear the news of the transition going into full gear the cabinet positions being filled I know that there is no "what do we do now" because the governing has already begun.

The night of the election I was extremely exhausted. I had gotten 2 nights of sleep the night before, I had walked out in the field the entire day and when I got a text message that NBC had called PA for Obama I didn't know what to think. Logically I knew this was pretty much the last nail in the coffin because this was the only path for a McCain longshot victory. However, I still wanted the other shoe to drop and I wanted to hear of a FL, VA, NC, or OH call to get me completely over the hump.

Anyway, I got back to the office and it was still extremely busy. Polls had just closed and there were still lines at certain precients and volunteers were being sent out these areas. On the way out to one, another voluntter named Matt and myself heard NPR call OH for Obama which prompted a deafening chorus betweent he two of us in the car. It really seems funny as to me looking back on things. We ended up just going back to HQ at this point. When they called NM right away we cheered a ton knowing this was where we held a special ownership of the race and knowing that our work out in the field had moved a county that was 2 points in favor of Kerry in 04 to being 15 points in favor of Obama in 08. Thats a HUGE move and I attribute that fully to the incredible work of the Field Organizers in that office and the volunteers that did a lot of the grunt work. It fills me with pride.

That night was just a complete emotional outpouring of joy. I fought tears when I talked to Jess on the phone when I began to realize that everything those people had poured their heart into was coming to fruition. Man, I just can't describe the wave of emtions I felt at that time. It was simply overwhelming. Obama doesn't represent an election where we felt we had a poor choice, he represents a complete political revolution for my generation and an opportunity to make great things happen. He's ours, and I don't think everyone understands what I mean by this but I know from the pictures and scenses that I saw play out right in front of me that a lot of people do. I know most of us don't take for granted that our future is brighter but I do know that everyone there feels like they have ownership of one of the greatest moments in American History which is simply something I can't fully comprehend yet.

He used qualifiers that didn't make his statement absolute.

There are racists there, and some of them did vote for McCain because he was the white candidate.

Racists are everywhere, , my uncle hates blacks.
" " is a very odd name for your uncle.

Congrats. It will be interesting to see how people under 30 view this election in 10 years or so.

I did what I could in my neighborhood, but didn't have the time to do more.

I did make the rounds with my "Veterans for Obama" sign though.
