I'm simply asking because of what I've read on various boards, but when you say "crime family", are you referring to wealth that was supposedly accrued during the Prohibition days? Is that part of their reputation in Tyler?
Update on 2015 LB Cameron Townsend of Fort Bend Ridge Point (24/7):
“I had a very good time there,” Townsend told Horns247. “We got to go bowling, which was a lot of fun. They had some of the current players there, along with the coaches too. It was very cool interacting with them. We also got to see the team work out for a little whole, which was also cool. Other than that, all the recruits were just getting to know each other. “The fact that Coach Brown stood up and talked to everyone really impacted me,” said Townsend. “He basically addressed any question we would have before anyone, including the parents, could ask. That stands out to me because I think when you get the head coach and his coaches to interact with the player and their families on that personal of a level, it has a little different meaning to it.”
“It definitely helped Texas a lot,” Townsend said. “I feel like being close to the Texas coaches like we were makes me interact with them much more. It gave me a chance to get to know all the coaches a little more than I normally would.”
“I feel like no matter where I choose, I can adapt,” he said. “Texas is definitely a great university though. There’s no way going there could be a mistake.”

From what I know it's mostly shady business dealings and drugs. The biggest local story is one of a business deal that went bad and a couple of guys went missing that were never found...but they were linked to the family. The running joke is that they are probably part of the Oil Palace parking lot now. I can't remember all the specifics of the story but my boss knows, so I'll ask her again. The Smith county justice system is a joke(that's why they wrote a book about it), so the Manziel's did a lot while the authorities looked the other way. That's why there is only word of mouth about it and not much do ented. But it all went on...anyone you ask from Tyler can tell you.
But as I said...I think most of it has died out with the older generation, because you don't really hear much about it anymore.

All we know is that it is a name that we will immediately recognize. I haven't heard of any other clues. A lot of people are hoping that it is Nick Harvey but nobody seems to know but the mods.
Looks like it's Kevin Shorter. Isn't he supposed to make his decision this weekend? I saw conflicting info that he'd pushed it back to tomorrow (instead of today), but then saw elsewhere that he'd pushed it back even further.

'15 QB target Ricky Town of St. Bonaventure HS (Cal.) has committed to Alabama.
The chances of this kid winning a MNC while he is at Alabama are pretty good. The chances of him being developed into an NFL QB not so good.
I have no idea why a top rated QB would take a chance on his career like that to go to a school that is across the country. If I'm a top rated QB, and had the desire to play in the SEC, I'd pick aggsy, or Georgia before I go to Alabama or LSU.
