Hill reminds me of a combination of Devin Harris and Rondo. Not quite the defender they are, but close to the same game. Devin looked a lot like Hill when he first came into the league.
Maybe Hill will eventually be a Lindsay Hunter type with hopefully a little better offense.

Hill's not that quick.
He is not as athletic, but close.
Better rebounder and ball handler imo.
Hill looked pretty good.
But,
he has trouble making shots in traffic and he isn't that quick with the ball (I didn't see him break anyone down on offense off the dribble ala Manu or TP) . He's a better overall athlete than Parker (has more potential to be a better defender than him), but he lacks quickness and agility to get in the lane and make noise on O, which is what makes Tony Tony and Manu Manu.
People here say he's good at shooting, and I hope so, because his ballhandling, although better today than before - he looked less shakey - isn't all that impressive.
and even though he is shooting terribly, his shot mechanically looks better.
If Gist is the only productive player we get out of this draft, that's still better than the last two + years with rookies.
Hill's pretty good defensively and is a good rebounder. Those things will keep him around, so hopefully he can learn how to get the ball in the hoop at even the Summer League level. He's even worse than Muggsy Bogues out there, without the playmaking capabilities. I like the kid, but drafting him in the first round will slowly reveal to more and more people to be a mistake.
I think that was Hairston with anohter long J.
That was Gist I think. At least that's what the PA guy said. I don't see him on the floor though.
Drafting Hill at 26 if there was a legit shot of him being taken later in the first or early in the second is a good move o the Spurs.
People here... cough, mr body cough, are too damned obsessed with player the Spurs really didn't need that have so far performed well in summer league.
People are overstating Hill's ballhandling and passing. There's a vested interest in talking him into a good player.
I think I prefer the games without commentary. At least the announcer gave names of people who hit the shots and no lame interviews.
He is raw, but I see him more as a defensive specialist, a la Harris, with more potential to be a better shooter.
The best 5 for the Spurs SL team are:
Mahinmi - looked a little more comfortable. He rebounded well but the Knicks didn't have much size. Ian still is not fluid and needs to work on really flushing it when he gets near the rim. He should make the Spurs roster but he needs to realize he is better than he thinks he is.
Gist- looking more and more like he will make the 15-man roster. He showed the ability to rebound, defend, block shots, and score, even from the outside.
Tolliver - very active, excellent mobility for his size and has a good outside touch
Powell - really showed his scoring abiility today
Hill - Basic PG play, solid defender, nothing fancy, slow and methodical, learning what it's like to shoot on 10 foot rims, now.
I wish George had went into the NBA a year or 2 ago and went to dleague etc.. would have been much more productive for him... he was NBA caliber a while ago.. he could score at will in college and it didn't prepare him like this is preparing him.. but Hill is a smart kid and will learn quickly
Green has been very good. He's been the second best player on the floor since I started watching.
Gist is going to be a player for us. He has some long ass arms. I don't want to get too ahead of myself here, but I can see him helping us out with our problems guarding David West and Lamar Odom.
Players like Hill, who have good physical tools, are undersized SGs, could possibly become points, are a dime a dozen in this league. You have to realize the team reached to get him. No big loss if another team nabs him later if you're sitting with a more productive player.
Hill through three games. 2 for 25. bleh!
And Hairston also had a decent game, 9 points in 15 minutes.
Overstating? He's doing well. 2 turnovers in 30 minutes of play today shows his ball handling and passing are good for a point.
In the three games so far he has played 95 minutes and has only 9 turnovers. Compared to OJ Mayo who in his first three games played 93 minutes and had 18 turnovers and only 4 assists.
He's just raw and not used to running the point. As he gets more comfortable and begins to play with better talent that will greatly help Hill progression.
