That is crazy. It sounds like Sexual Harrasment. I know women who have admitted to claiming Sexual Harrasment to get a guy fired because he did not call them back etc..... It sucks for the people involved but it sucks more for people with ligitimate problems. Eventually people will stop responding like they do now. That is when people get hurt. It's out of control but the reason the state now prosecutes is because is they get called and then people make up with each other and the state doesn't act...then if someone gets killed later on it's a huge PR nightmare for the State and everyone points the finger at law enforcement...
This way no one can ever say the State and Law enforcement failed to act...and that's why they do it...
I also imagine that most Lawyers love this law because it's guranteed business for them...
But I think the main reason for this law is because of the OJ Simpson case and similar cases...where there was a history of letigimate domestic abuse but one person didn't want to charge the other...and eventually that person got murdered etc...
It's not really that bad of a law...they get called and they act...and they don't let relationship dysfuncions, cold feet or fear get in the way the way individuals in a love relationship will...but it is true that sometimes these people are not really guilty or both parties were equally guilty...and they just plead guilty just to get it over with depending on who the judge is and how agreeable the DA is feeling. I don't totally understand the way it works because I am not a lawyer...
