Ruth is not the GOAT, though (in a vacuum). Put Ruth against Clayton Kershaw, and he's hitting .100. Ruth is the GOAT as much as George Mikan is. I respect Ruth and he was a freak of nature, but if he time traveled from 1925 to the modern MLB, he doesn't make the cut.
You mean to tell me the same Ruth that hit 29 HRs in a dead-ball era wouldn't fare well in the dope-era when Jose Bautista was a scrub who couldn't hit 20 HRs before he got on the juice. (Ryan Braun on the other hand went from being an MVP to not being mentioned at all when he got off the juice)

BTW, I like Ruth's chances against Kershaw in a playoff game.

Let's be real bro, Kirby's fetus injections didn't help him out in the least. Dude still shot historically bad, so Germany didn't know what they were doing (or maybe Kirbs is just that bad )

As for Ruth. Directly transported from 1926, I don't see it. Pitchers have WAY nastier stuff now. 95mph sliders and 4 seamers that move all around the place.

The one midget who kicks all the other midget's asses = GOAT
Pacquiao is 5'5" w/o shoes & whooped the same Oscar that only lost by a split decision against Floyd. Oscar was expected to win b/c of his size advantage especially w/ Pacquiao having to move up to 147 but speed kills:

Kirby isn't a "modern day" athlete, dude is from the Jordan Era & would require a full body replacement. If someone doesn't have any cartilage left then there is no scaffolding for the stem cells.

All he needs is a hook up for his daily "regimen" & he would be set. He wouldn't even have to take the heavy stuff, just the PEDs that aren't on the banned list.

    Baseball players don't though:

    Average height/weight in the MLB - 6.14 feet, 196 pounds, 25.6 BMI

In the EPL - 5.97 feet, 167 pounds, 24.2 BMI

Arrieta's routine does look kind of , so it should appeal to the soccer fans ITT

Except in the MLB it tends to be the All-Star level players that let themselves go, it's top heavy.

Off the top of my head, overweight/obese All-star &/or MVP caliber players within the past 5 years:

    David "Big Fatty" Ortiz
    Prince Fielder
    Miguel Cabrera
    CC Sabathia
    Pablo Sandoval

Ortiz cut, bro. It's why he's playing some of the best baseball of his career.

And the other players you mentioned saw a big decline when they got fat (Cabrera slimmed down from that pic you always post). CC was in rehab not too long ago. Baseball's Vin Baker.

And again, you keep mentioning the same handful of players

    Here's last season WAR leaders:

    http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.asp...ter=&players=0

No fatties (aside from maybe Encarnacion) on the first page. 1 fatty on page 2 (Cabrera).

And no fatties on page 1 of the pitching leaders:

    http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.asp...ter=&players=0

The players you mentioned are baseball versions of Diaw. They could be so much better if they slimmed down. Sandoval has all the talent in the world, but is a lazy , and his fatness has put him on the DL

Except Diaw never made he All-Star/All-NBA team, won MVP nor was the highest paid player at his position. He actually got run out of town when he was 2009 CC Sabathia status & had to be in serious shape to be as effective as Sandoval on a championship team.

Dumbass, teams aren't going to sign a designated punt returner. They want them to be part-time receivers, defensive backs or running backs in Sproles case.

Only in Beisbol where you have "designated" base runners b/c the DH is morbidly obese.
There are planty of people who only play special teams in the NFL(including returners). There isn't anyone in baseball who only is a designated base runner.

Specials teams members are used for practice squads & as emergency backups. They aren't some scrub batting below the Mendoza line who sits in the dug out chewing tobacco until the top of the 7th.

By sheer number, football will always have the highest number of participants just b/c of the FACT it has LARGEST roster spots, has positions that don't require skill besides sheer strength/athleticism & overweight kids are actually recruited to be linesman.

    Otherwise:

Football has seen age 6-14 participation drop from 3 million in 2010 to 2.169 million just five years later—a massive 27.7 percent drop.

This is a disconcerting trend for the NFL since youth football is one of the league’s biggest marketing arms. Early participation draws kids into the game’s culture and creates fans for life.

Ronaldo's arms would snap trying to push that weight

The NFL has the greatest ratio of "obese athletes" to positional players, and these "obese" athletes often win MVP awards (Defensive MVP) like fatasses Warren Sapp, Reggie White, Dana Stubblefied, Cortez Kennedy, etc.

You got to get over the myth that a shredded physique translates into athleticism, bro. I bet Vince Wilfork can run the 25m dash as fast as Ronaldo There's no spinning it, the "greatest soccer athlete in the world" is ungodly slow for being a 6'0", 176 shredded specimen and playing a game in which running is 90% of the sport.

    Ah.

    40 yard dash:

    Wilfork: 5.08 seconds

    Ronaldo's projected time: 4.64-4.73

    And Wilfork weighs 325lbs

    Soccer "athletes."

But the game is about stamina and technique

Just showing him that baseball isn't the only sport where a fat guy can be great. Pretty much every sport has had great fat players. Shaq ballooned up to nearly 400lbs in 2003 and was still an MVP candidate.

And I also don't understand how soccer fans can disparage fat baseball players, football players, etc, when those guys are proven to be just as athletic if not more so

    Again, lean and shredded=/=athletic.
