Thanks. Means a lot coming from the hands down worst poster on this forum. Stay mad, stalker.![]()
Like I said, don't be surprised if he doesn't play this season. Might be for the best regardless.
team with or without KL. Patty Mills is an absolute abortion.
Well, IT expects to return in January...Basically Rose is his replacement for almost 3 months.
Can't blame their start on him though. That whole roster is bad.
They lost a +20ppg PG for a -10 ppg...Anyway, I wonder who Bron will blame for this start.
Sham gonna be lapping Woj now for real. I'm not gonna be glued to ESPN when i can just look at twitter and see someone else post it.
I've said before that LMA isn't a reliable #1 option on an elite team, his game has flaws in modern-day NBA. And while I hate Moore as much as I hate Warriors, he wrote a nice article about the issue with our offense and LMA.
"Aldridge finished as a minus-10 after being that plus-3 at half. OK, it's a team-oriented stat. He still scored 24 ... on 22 shots. Only four other players this season have taken at least 22 shots and scored 24 or fewer points, and they were all guards. They were 2-3 in those games. Aldridge shot just 36 percent from the field, and that's with a 50-percent night from the arc. This gets back to the same problem that Aldridge has had over the past three years, the same problem so many bigs are having. If you were a dominant post presence, you once could sustain your team enough to build a lead and hold it, but with how offenses have become more explosive, it's far tougher to rely on that kind of offense. It's not long-term sustainable over the course of a game.
...
The question remains whether the Spurs' formula that involves Aldridge so heavily, the one they felt compelled to invest in on another multi-year extension for him, can work vs. this Spurs team"

Exactly why re-signing Aldridge was a mistmake. With or without Kawhi, a soft jumpshooting big who demands touches is not adequate enough to win a championship, and a poor fit for the team.
Until the Spurs can surround Kawhi with real talent, and LMA accepts a role best suited for him, this antiquated offense will likely only be good enough to amount to an early playoff exit in May at best.
Well he's not a #1 option overall, it's just till Leonard comes back. But people complaining and mocking "muh touches" but I have yet to hear who can carry the offense efficiently or not. No one on this roster can. Whether he wanted it or not is was gonna happen. But what you look at is the heart, the interest level, and the passing out the double teams, which have been there. Those are the things that's gonna make him an exceptional 2nd option.
I'm not sure Kerr would blow smoke up our team but he said this,
We aren't gonna beat GS at their game. They are "lightyears" ahead in that department, while it pains me to say. But with what we got, and if it's done right, we can beat them. I'm gonna pull the game 1 card. KL and LMA dominated. LMA as a cleaner is never gonna happen, but if he can impose his will off the ball with boards and hit the open shot, that's all we need. As long as he continues to improve his passing out the double team and becomes more dynamic, that's all we can ask for and defense. He's proving he's one of the best bigs in the league. He's playing like an All Star and not all All Stars are created equal but this is who we have. He's a Spur now. He chose us and we chose him.
Sorry for that tangent, but more on the who could shoulder the load offensively, Joff's injury has stung a lil because of his ability to roll or pop. When you have a roll man as effective as he is you can run offense through it. With Pau and LMA, they aren't great roll bigs. Joff has earned his minutes much like Paul has.
Call me crazy but efficiency matters, especially in a low pace system like the Spurs.
In the last 3 games he shot .47% .38% and .36% tonight, this shooting hurts the team. Because it's not from a player taking just 7 FGAs per game, he takes almost 20...
I wonder if he is doing that great or he's just taking more shots...Except FGA's all his numbers look pretty similar to his last season.
What offense can we do that is more efficient? If Joff was there we could run the pick and roll...
Boston has Horford who's a tough matchup for him and GS has Draymond. And your sample size doesn't tell the whole story. Through 7 games he's shooting about 50%. Boston and GS aren't some scrub teams. They are tops in their respective conferences. Defense is gonna be tougher. No one said LMA was a transcendent star.
Patty "I'm not pressing anything at all". And Pau as a defensive force..
Everyone mocks LMA "muh touches" but can't name a better way to score without KL and Parker. What great offense are we neglecting to get LMA his touches. I give the Joff PnR, but what else? Parker can't orchestrate the offense. We can't go to Kawhi when we really need a bucket or a game winner.
In the way this team is built I doubt there is one. That's the issue.
That's my point though. Kyle Anderson may be the best playmaker we have right now. I know, really... The 3-4 PnR with him and LMA was working well a couple possessions in a row vs GS but nobody wants to hear that. He's kind of been taking the responsibility to make something happen.
As for DJ, he makes good passes for the most part, but he's still learning and can't be overtly trusted to playmake. Manu has his moments but it's so inconsistent and best left as a fall back option.
Back to Kyle though, he had a big game today and once again vs the Warriors. I'm interested to see where he goes from here and if that was a breakout performance. When turds hit the wall, Kyle was being relied upon to make plays. That's where we are at. If Patty continues to start, I see more Anderson playmaking. We'll see how that goes.
Now lets turn this to a Simmons discussion^^^ Could use his playmaking.... but oh well. Imma try and let it go
If Kyle can play like today every game, it would help, but it isn't enough. That's a big "if" anyway as he's never shown that he can maintain any sort of aggressive play over the course of the season.
Exactly.
And the argument that the Spurs can't and shouldn't try to beat GS at their own game is a non-starter. You don't need to outgun them necessarily, you only need to reasonably contain them, get efficient shots, and have a go-to guy when needed. We have that star and the personnel to match-up defensively when Kawhi is in the game (for the most part as Mills and Gasol can't guard anyone).
Offense, however, is a different story; a one-two punch system with Kawhi and LMA isn't efficient enough to keep up with them all game. Kawhi needs - preferably - another high-level, 2nd banana-type playmaker and more consistent 3pt shooters. We also need LMA to accept in this scenario that he might not get his touches depending on the flow of the game. Too bad that last part is less likely to happen than anything else, tbh.
To be fair, the Spurs probably thought Murray would breakout and Gay would be more efficient with the role he's in now. It hasn't panned out that way though.
I share this opinion, but we have to consider that we are just in the second week and all our games have been played without our all star.
Anyway some things are clear.
Manu cannot be considered forever our game changer play maker...and for now we didn't find anyone worth his role.
The candidates this year are, in order:
1) Murray : too young maybe and for sure, for now, plenty of weaknesses (turnover 'cause of his high dribble; total lacking of an outside shot, expecially from three point lane);
2)Mills : simply not a play maker (and inadequate for a starting role...if he can't concentrate only on his shoot, he becames an offensive libility and he is already always a defensive liability), always hurryng his shot with bad percentages);
3)Kyle : he's the only real play maker of the three (has been a pg all his college years)...but imho better suited for a bench role or a secondary play maker role
I like Kyle but Warren is better
It's not necessary, we all know this is true.
