If someone says something construed as racist, they're racist, period, per the times we live in and the morality police/SJWs. Jokes are words, words that come from someone's mouth or thoughts. They make pedophile jokes, they're pedophiles based on the logic and precedents set forth with the racist-spotters and taggers/morality police. If that isn't a fair action, then how would it be fair in regards to calling someone racist?
This isn't aimed at Marky Mark the Asian and Black beater/racist or this , this is based on the who and how people are judged and labeled from the people who pass this judgement and how Hollyweird functions. I couldn't care less about either- I'm anti-celebrity worship- but there are definite hypocrisies in who and how people are judged in the social media society that is partisan biased.

being fired for off-color jokes that were made years ago? not a fan. but disney certainly wants to protect its image, so its understandable
for the record, these were my thoughts from the milo situation when people pointed out other off-color comments made by guys like george takei and bill hamer
and i'll stand by that. people should be able to distinguish actually held positions from comedy... whether its off-color or notWill check it out when home from work. Can't really watch vids here.
I'm the one who posted the takei video, not exactly hiding ffrom this... Just saying there should be distinctions between political takes and comedy (like the Maher example). Admittedly, lines are blurred when you're a political comedian.
Daniel Tosh has said some of the most awful I've ever heard, but he's great in the context of comedy.
if you can get fired for having made an offensive joke at some point in your past, i dont know how many of us here would ever be able to maintain employment
now, if Gunn had made those jokes last week, that's obviously a different story.

i'm sure marvel/disney will be fine, and i understand disney wanting to play it safe considering they do cater to parents/kids quite a bit, and the Guardians films were probably the most child-targeted films from the MCU.
i dont think disney made a mistake or should be criticized for firing gunn. but im not a fan of a paradigm where people can get sniped for any comment ever made. that should have been part of their due diligence before hiring. you can just tell him "hey, we want to hire you, but we saw these tweets from a while back. we want you to delete them as you will be representing our brand" or something.
