One season for Leonard as the franchise player post-Duncan and he was holding out and forcing a trade the next. It's not just that he apparently doesn't want to be that type of player, it's that he cannot handle that type of pressure, IMO. Does he have the talent to be one of the top 5 players in the NBA? Sure. However, he just wants to play and go home. Which, of course, is why SA was generally a very good place for him to be. I think the desire to be somewhere else is not driven by compe iveness or even this desire but obviously the financial desires of his uncle and agent.

He was ill suited for the role of face of the franchise and team leader. Frankly the best place for him to be is as a side piece on a team with low expectations, just balling and the fans and organization happy with making the playoffs and whatever playoff games they win.
What about that report where the person said that Kawhi thought he's better than Lebron, Curry, Durant and all those guys. That doesn't sound like a guy that wants to be a side piece to me at all. I don't remember if I read that or head it on a podcast or a video, but the person said that is what Kawhi thinks/believes.

Who would have predicted that right?

I think that report was embellished. Sure, to be an elite athlete you have to have some level of ego. But when it came to actually doing it, being the face of the franchise, the team leader...that's not him. Every organization has expectations, every coach is demanding, the idea that the grass is greener elsewhere is naive.

Everyone should have. DeRozan loved TOR and had no desire to be traded. Kawhi poisoning SA very publicly and wanting out and he got his wish.

Isn't that what separates the average, the good, the ne'er do wells, and even the very good from the great? Many think 'I'm just as good as..." but how many are willing to do what it takes to consistently be great? Obviously Leonard can be a key component on a championship team, but being the man for a franchise? That's not him.

Give it a little time, I suspect the roles will be reversed soon enough.

Definitely possible - but DeRozan is legit broken up about it as he should be. I love that a player cared so much that it truly hurt him. I want that type of player.

LMA did the same last season and they still made up so they didn't have to trade him just like they didn't with LMA last season. That's probably turned out to be the right move because they weren't getting great offers last summer. They were in the same situation with Kawhi this year and they trade him for a not so great offer instead of trying to improve the relationship.

Also at the end of the day you've got to ask yourself why do the Spurs keep running into this problem with their best players. You can't complain about not getting good talent then when you get it you don't cultivate the relationship.

Really wish Derozan would at least post something acknowledging his new team. I mean I get it. But it's been a few days already. I wonder when spurs will hold a press conference for the new signings

He is grinning for the picture but he doesn't look to be overly happy. It looks eerily similar to how Steve Francis looked after he thought he was getting drafted by the Bulls but wound up getting drafted by Vancouver instead. I'm thinking had he gotten his wish and gotten traded to a LA team he would probably be cheesing big time in this picture. It would had been a totally bad look if his first picture with him in Toronto he was looking stone faced.

I believe it. Maybe the best two way player in the game when healthy. That's Jordan territory. And his offense was still a work in progress but last playoffs he was healthy he looked like he had figured it out on that end ala Lebron this playoffs.

All DeRozan has to do is show up, speak, and play and SA will love him.

Leonard has to replace a fan favorite who apparently was also a media favorite and de facto face of the franchise, basically the he hated in SA, along with living in a refrigerator. In time the media will turn hostile on him, especially if Uncle D is making his stupid demands and publicly pushing the team to trade him all next season, which will likely happen.

Jordan actually did it. Leonard wants no part of that limelight and what comes with it.

Also, if the league thought he was sniffing anywhere close to LeBron and Jordan territory the Spurs would've gotten much better offers, even for a 1 year rental.

The Spurs were close to selling high with Leonard. The stupid rehab holdout, trade demand, etc... unfortunately significantly reduced their return.

He looks tired, haggard, stressed out, imo. Maybe this whole mess has taken a toll on him--maybe deep down inside he never really wanted to leave SA/Spurs but because he's a family guy maybe LA was where his family/group wants him. This might be a good thing in the long run for Kawhi. During his stint here he never showed signs of being a malcontent--not a bad word about him from teammates, coaching staff, media etc... Let's hope its a lesson learned and he can open up more and speak for himself instead of just trying to please everyone around him. Someday he might realize now how good he had it here with the Spurs.

....and Spurs fans should welcome Kawhi and cheer for him even as a Raptor because in the end he did play a huge role in giving Timmy number 5.

Why the heck do you get taxed so much in Canada?

Also, why is the tax so low in Texas compared to other places in the US?
there Is no state income Tax in Texas but the property taxes are extremely high in Texas.

You should try and understand people more. He was caught by surprise by the only NBA team he has ever known. As long as he is in training camp ready to go, that's all we should expect for now.

If Leonard turns back and wants to go to SA next year, would the Spurs be able to sign him?

Would be some some 80's wrestling heel turn/face turn thing right there

Every city is a better city than san boriantonio. The city has a great steady climate for outdoor recreational sports year round like socal but the city is never developed enough to make it into a world class tourist city. So much wasted potential!. They should add casinos in the hill country and legalize pot use. Relaxe the strip club laws and let these girls get naked! Fix up the hot springs hotel, etc.

Monterrey mexico and Guadalajara are way more funner cities than sa and there in mexico!

San antonio is basically an extension of nuevo laredo/laredo texas. No wonder kawhi wants out.
