thanx at least u make me smile
Maybe if we were living in an alternate reality, where Chapu makes it and/or they send it into overtime with their D. And U.S.A actuall played with ball movement and defended the P& R better![]()
thanx at least u make me smile
It was a hard fought game at least. Both were battling, and it was close to the last seconds. After the initial disappointment with the shots not falling for Argentina, it isn't so bad in the end.
well I'm out. Great basketball this morning!
it's almost like deja vu,
in the 2004 Olympics, everyone was expecting a US-Lithuania matchup. they got it...in the bronze medal round.
now they were asking for a US-Argentina matchup, and they get it again in the bronze medal round...
maybe journalists should just shut up...![]()
What a ty ing game.
Argentina started off really well, but they lost the game in the early 2nd quarter when Spain and their guards started to dominate. Some 6'3" Rudy Fernandez guy ends up with back-to-back dunks off of a lousy ass turnover. Argentina really ed that game up with all of those unnecessary fouls and lazy turnovers.
^^ I agree.
And Gasol's 86 and 1's didn't help much either.
Oh well, it would have been a great story for Argentina winning the 04 Olympics and 06 WC![]()
it wasn't meant to be...![]()
The game was fantastic emotion-wise, though not particularly well played. Manu had the game winner and blew it again. I know I'm gonna hear every Manu homer saying how he is a winner and all that. I believe he hasn't won a game ever since they started saying that.![]()
No, they just really stunk it up today.
I realized this a while ago. Manu was incredible in 2005. He was unstoppable. He's still a great player, but he won't ever be like he was in 05.
I hesitatingly agree that Manu will probably not reach that 2005 playoff level again, but it is still a lot of fun to watch him play basketball. As to today's game, I think the coach has to take the blame for ordering that intentional foul at the end. I'm not sure how much freedom manu has to operate with this coach---can he stray from the set play and create like he can with popovich or is this coach's play the law? Anyway, that was a lame decision to foul, I thought. And I also feel that Argentina had a decent chance to win the game with that last shot by Nocioni. Unfortunately, it did not fall. But a of a game. A war. To those that are disappointed that Ginobili's shooting percentage was not up to par, I say that he tried his best under very physical situations. I'm just glad that he did not get hurt.
For those that watched the game, does anyone else think they really lost the grip of the game when Sanchez and Manu went out and Prigioni came in??? He really stunk it up, he couldn't handle the ball off, and the team wasn't getting any shots off.
But not to just blame it on him, why did Manu and Sanchez need such long breaks??? Gasol came back in way before they did, and that's when the game shifted to Spain's favor, and Argentina made turnovers left and right, and Espana capitalized on all of them.
It's surprising how much more dominant Manu is at the end of a game when Duncan is down underneath the basket instead of Scola.
I think that he's just more out of control these days. It's like he can't control his out-of-controlness that he once used to. No he just runs into people and puts up prayer lay-ups. There was a time in the game today where Argentina stopped with the team play and ball movement, and just gave it to Manu everytime, hoping he would do something. His success rate wasn't too high.
Yeah, but it's a two headed monster when the team gives him the ball and stands around waiting for him to save them. He has no choice but to try to do it himself, and it's difficult because when the defense sees his teammates standing around, then they know he's the only one they need to stop. I've seen three or four Argentina games so far in this tournament, and they looked like they just went flat about the middle of the second. I think maybe they had also been cruising for too long, and when they got out to a lead in the beginning they just thought it would be easy. That mo is hard to get back once you lose it. They also got into whining about the calls, which took them out of their game.
Well there's no doubt about all of what you just said, which is why I keep saying that they lost the game in the early 2nd quarter.
waiting for someone to come up with something never did anyone good except if that someone were MJ or Bird or Magic. Argentina is at its best when they play as a team.
And they were doing such a good job of it up until this game, it's too bad they pissed away the opportunity.
too much hype..lack of concentration...very good opponent...it happens.![]()
Ask the US olympic team.
it happens when you start celebrating after beating team turkey who all but rolled down for them..
Well I think it's offiicial that Spain completely owns Argentina in the world of basketball, as much as that upsets me.
10-0...hard to argue with that.
Wade is much more dominant with Shaq underneath the basket (instead of Brand or Bosh) as well. It's amazing how that works![]()
