I am just waiting for them to cut in with a TO update...
True that. I recall when that happened. It barely made a bleep in the news radar.
I am just waiting for them to cut in with a TO update...
If five Yankees had gotten shot . . . well, Steinbrenner would no doubt have said he was justified.
That was funny.![]()
Man, I'm pretty ashamed now.
Five young kids get shot through no fault of their own and it wasn't nearly this much.
I think the only remaining argument could be Prominence/Celebrity (professional versus collegiate athletes), but still....
Nah, it's the logo he wore on his cap. If he was still a Phillie, they would have run a 30 second clip and then ran his photo as they went to break...
I haven't even bothered to turn on ESPN because I figured the excess would piss me off.
He would have still gotten the same coverage if he were a still a Phillie, I think.
That would make a great column.
Who would have the guts to write it?
Of course you would think that.
(j/k)
Don't get me wrong, it's a huge sports story. Lead with it for a few nights, run a tribute, etc. But running continuous coverage is excessive, to say the least.
Give me the rest of the evening.
Wow. In doing some background research, I just noticed that the MLB/Yankees have already pulled Lidle from the active and 40-man rosters.
Ok?
Or is it just one of those things that doesn't need to be officially done.
I don't know...I just wasn't expecting to see that when I was looking for Lidle's page and it surprised me enough to post it.
It's done. The initial one at least.
I always have more thinking and more writing to come.
They're running continous coverage because it involves a plane crashing into a building in New York City. You guys can't ingore the ramifications an event like that carries.
I know what went through your heads the moment you all heard about it because its the first thing that went through my head too:
Is this terrorism?
Thats why this gets coverage the way it does.
Sure...
On CNN, Fox News or MSNBC.
On ESPN?
At least I'm talking about ESPN's coverage, not about the news sites.
WTF was that statement by Bud Selig? It was like he googled Lidle and cut and paste from Wikipedia.
I'm sure his assistant did the googling![]()
Yeah, even ESPN. Anytime something that reminicent of terrorism happens I feel it is goig to permeate all levels of our media. The moment ESPN has somthing to grab on - in this case the Lidle - then they're going to cover it extensively.
Yeah, but it's been long established now this was highly unlikely to be terrorism.
Everything for the last few hours has just been New York naval-gazing.
so the bodies were still belted to the seats in the middle of the street? that is what I heard earlier.
Huh? Terrorism? They had that ruled out by 5 PM EST.
And for other pro players to die suddenly, look no further than Darryl Kile, who was found dead in his hotel room two hours before a game with the Cubs. Amazingly, they didn't run 9 hours of continuous coverage...
