I worked in tv advertising for years and you're absolutely right. This is the kind of situation where you give your advertisers a phone call and say, "I think it's a good time to move your ad dollars to CNN and Fox News." Where do you think the ad dollars were moved during Katrina? The Weather Channel.
Things got ed up when somebody realized that news could be a profit center. I don't even watch the news during sweeps months (February, May, August, November) anymore because the stories are so outrageous. The local and cable news channels save their "best" stories for these months and run tons of ads promoting them. It's not about bringing you the news anymore. It's about ratings which equal ad revenue.
Just pay attention next month and you'll see what I mean.

No, he's fine. In fact, he didn't even hear the gunshots, even though he was directly above them. It was around 7 in the morning though, so he was probably asleep after a good night of drinking.
