Indeed they did....
-Like when they didn't call the blatant foul on Bowen during Dirk's potential game winner in game 5.
-And when Tim Duncan had more FT attempts 3 quarter into Game 7 than the entire Mavericks team.
-And when Devin Harris got mugged on his way to the basket over and over and over in Game 6 and couldn't buy a call.
...not that any of those things matter. The only "bad calls" that count, of course, are the ones that go against the Spurs. Right?![]()
I think the relatively small fine has a lot to do with the sense that at least some of what Tim said was justified and that the ejection was wrongful in the first place.
I'll join the chorus in reiterating my belief that Tim was out of line on Sunday. With that said, though, there are plenty of mitigating factors in this case and it appears to me at least that when the NBA did its due diligence on the incident, it decided that the mitigating factors weighed rather heavily in Timmy's favor.
There's really no need to get into this.
Ah, here we go again.
That is so freakin awesome!
stern did say on OTL that crawford might quit because he still thinks he was right for what he did to duncan. And thinks stern was not right for suspending him so if he has any pride im thinking he is quitting for good. so no more crawford
My pride and respect for the NBA and Stern is restored.
I wouldn't exactly say it's restored for me. That's pushing it too far.
But still, I didn't expect this from Stern, so I give him a, strictly on this issue.
It'll take a lot more than this for me to respect what Stern has done with the officials. IMO this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as whipping the NBA officials into shape goes
I don't know which games you have been going to, but the Spurs cuss plenty. Lots of players do it. If you think this is the first time Tim has said F&$% during a game, then you live in Never-Never land. You would lose count if you tried to keep track of how many times players say something is BS in the course of one NBA game.
David Stern (on Camera, looking stern): There was an egregious violation of the game management here by an individual who had been specifically addressed on this very subject by me, and I did what I thought I had to do.
Further, Stern offered this as well:
David Stern: In fairness, I would say that, he doesn't think he did anything wrong, and you know, probably doesn't wish to work in the NBA anymore.
it is on espn!
And if Kobe was doing as he was being escorted out by security after being ejected from the game on National TV...I'd say he was acting unprofessional and should (and most likely would) get suspended for at least one game.
I'm saying if the reasoning Stern is giving is becuase Crawford didn't meet "the standards of professionalism" than I don't think Duncan did either.
Nice Try. I'm not a biased homer fan like you.
I am not clear as to why Spurs fans are so excited about no Joey Crawford. Do you really want more Bavetta and Nies?
He is gone for good. book it
what a ing stubborn asshole. I hope he does not get a contract on Timmy. that ing asshole.
Time for you to ref your grandkids' PS3 games !
because he ed with our homeboy Timmy that's why. duh
NBA Suspends Referee Crawford for Tim Duncan Ejection

By Scott Soshnick
April 17 (Bloomberg) -- The National Basketball Association suspended referee Joe Crawford at least through the playoffs after his ejection of San Antonio's Tim Duncan in a game against Dallas two days ago.
Duncan was ejected from the Spurs' 91-86 loss after receiving his second technical foul while sitting on the bench and laughing. After the game, he said Crawford, in his 31st NBA season, challenged him to a fight.
A statement from the NBA today said Crawford was punished ``for improper conduct toward Tim Duncan,'' including the second technical and ejection.
``Joey Crawford's handling of this situation failed to meet the standards of professionalism and game management we expect of NBA referees,'' NBA Commissioner David Stern said. ``Especially in light of similar prior acts by this official, a significant suspension is warranted.''
Lamell McMorris, head of the National Basketball Referees Association, and Lon Babby, Duncan's agent, declined to comment.
Crawford has refereed 266 playoff games and 38 NBA Finals games, the most among active officials. He also has a reputation as being quick to give technical fouls.
NBA referees must be re-hired each season based on performance evaluations. A 20-year official makes about $300,000 annually, the referees' association said.
Crawford, 55, in an e-mail to league officials and colleagues, summarized his telephone conversation with Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president for basketball operations, who oversees the referees.
`Do It Again'
``I told him I would throw Duncan out again if he did what he did,'' Crawford said in the e-mail, a copy of which was obtained by Bloomberg News. ``So if my employer does not think that was acceptable, then I have a problem.''
Crawford declined to comment on the e-mail. Jackson through a league spokeswoman declined comment.
After the game, Crawford told a pool reporter that Duncan, 30, had been complaining the entire contest.
Stern said the league would have more discussions with Crawford ``to be sure he understands his responsibilities.''
The meeting to discuss reinstatement will take place after the playoffs, Crawford said in his e-mail.
`Personal Vendetta'
Duncan, who had 16 points and seven rebounds when he was ejected, said Crawford has a ``personal vendetta'' against him.
``He looked at me and said, `Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?''' said Duncan, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.
It was the second ejection of Duncan's 10-year career. The first one, in 2002, came after an exchange with Minnesota's Kevin Garnett. Both players were ejected and the suspensions were subsequently rescinded by the league office.
``Please do not be sad for me,'' Crawford wrote in his e- mail. ``I have had a great run and a great career and nobody will ever take that from me.''
Crawford Is Done!
CRAWFORD MUST SEEK MEDICAL HELP!
You're twisting this around so you can make people sound hypocritical.
Tim Duncan getting ejected and looking a ref in the face while calling him a " ing piece of " is not typical for a Spurs game. This is FAR different than saying something is BS.
So I guess he is done for good in the league. Guy seems like he has too much pride to come back
i'd still bet he comes back
