All signs point to Benenoch committing to Texas at this point. Any idea when he wants to make his decision?

I work with a Bama grad, and a LSU alumnus. We talk football regularly, St. Augustine is a big recruiting high school for both programs. I believe the St. Augustine HC has a prior relationship with Saban. I smell a recruiting war brewing in New Orleans.

I mean this politely as possible, Fournette is a hail mary. I respect Major for trying, but the kid is going to go Bama or LSU.

I believe Texas' only Southeast recruiting excursions should be along the I -20 corridor in Louisiana. Texas can and has won recruiting battles there. It could take Big 12 expansion in the Southeast to establish a recruiting foot print.
I agree with ya, BFLT(glad to see your input again). The only way I can see us having a chance is if LSU somehow blows it. Bama will probably snag the beast that is Bo Scarborough so I doubt that Fournette would join that crowded backfield.

LSU fans are more than paranoid and maybe rightfully so with Saban connections at such an important school.

    Both were top performers.

    13. QB Tyrone Swoopes -- Whitewright (Texas): Swoopes was on target most of the day and was the victim of a few drops early as he and his receivers began to build chemistry, but he got better as the day wore on. His mechanics aren't great, but he does have nice touch and he was on target most of the day. Swoopes isn't a pure passer, but he was better than both Max Browne and Johnathon McCrary as far as consistency throughout the day.

    6. WR Ricky Seals-Jones -- Sealy (Texas): Seals-Jones was one of the players who redeemed himself at the event. After looking good in drills on day one, he couldn't get separation, dropped some passes and struggled running routes on Saturday. After a couple of early drops, he started to get into rhythm and started to catch the ball consistently and become a huge threat for his team. He and quarterback Tyrone Swoopes began to develop a nice chemistry down the line for the Southwest. He still struggles catching the ball out in front, but he showed his potential at the position.

Definitely. LSU fan is at DEFCON 2. They are definitely concerned with St. Augustine become a Bama pipeline. I could be wrong here, but the St. Augustine HC is from the Saban coaching tree.

I can listen to Bama fan and LSU fan argue about who cheats less all day long.

Apparently LSU fans accuse the head coach of St. Augustine as being anti-LSU and it's supposedly worse now with Holmes coming over from Woodlawn. Fournette is a longshot but thought it was pretty cool that Holmes said he plans on bringing Fournette to Austin in the future.

Here are some random quotes (from 24/7) on the recruitment of OL Caleb Benenoch since he's throwing out mixed signals lately. Because his father lives in Nigeria, this thing could take a while. He may want to wait until his father comes to the US and sees his future school before committing:

“He likes playing the game,” a source with knowledge of the recruitment said. “When it's over, it'll be Texas.”

“He knows about every lineman Texas has recruited and every lineman that will be on campus when he gets there,” the source said. “If there's anything working against Texas, it might be that he really sees Oklahoma as being a place where he could get on the field earlier.”

“He'll make five visits and then commit,” the source said. “He's all UT. He hasn't come out and said it, but I think he's a silent (commitment).”

“When he (Benenoch's father) gets in the States he'll have to see the school before (Benenoch) can commit,” a source with knowledge of the situation said. “That's why he might not end up making the decision until official visits.”

“She (Benenoch's mother) recently became a UT fan,” a source said. “The way things stand right now UT is where she wants him to be.”

Update on OL/DL Andrew Billings who recently visited Northwestern and Indiana (24/7):

“The family had a plan from the start and they're sticking to it,” Herbst said. “They had the Northwestern trip scheduled for a long time, so they took it because they wanted to keep their word.”

“When Texas offers kids there have been instances where they've said you've got 24 or 48 hours or whatever timeframe to decide or the offer's off the table, but that wasn't the case here,” Herbst said. “They want Andrew, but at the same time, they know Andrew is going to take his time."

“This decision for the Billings' is going to be about a lot more than football,” Herbst said. “They're really looking at academics and what the best fit is for Andrew in terms of the complete package a school has to offer.”

“They're (Texas) in the top five, at least,” Billings said. “That's what I'd say. They've made it clear they want him and there's legitimate interest from the family.”

“All I know for a fact is we start fall practice Aug. 19,” Herbst said. “If he hasn't made a decision by then, then I'd imagine it wouldn't be too long after that.”

OL Deon Mix of Batesville, MS is another longshot but Bo Davis stopped by his school during the spring evaluation period and has since been trying to get him to Austin for a visit.

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...eon-Mix-131450

"My boss, him and Bo Davis go way back. He said they've been looking at me for a while and they like my film. They wanted me to come out there for a visit," said Mix. "Right now I'm pretty steady with Mississippi State. That's still where my heart is, but you never know. The future might open up something different."

"I know Texas is a big powerhouse every year. I'd like to go somewhere like that," Mix said.

I can't remember if we've talked about this kid yet, but 2014 DB Laurence Jones of Monroe, LA is a guy UT has their eye on. They were by his school in the spring and he's currently listing an offer from the Longhorns. He doesn't talk recruiting much but one plus is he has a ton of family in Texas.

The Orangebloods and Hook Em 247 mods are inferring that Alfred will get offered when he visits. The Texas staff seems pretty anxious to get him on campus. It could be this Wednesday.

I think he commits during the visit if offered. He's a Texas kid, and he doesn't have many offers.

I think this is a solid move. Alfred will only be able to play 2 seasons, but the 2014 DE class is well above average.

A recent quote from DE Torrodney Prevot who will camp at LSU in mid-July:

"After the LSU camp that's probably going to be it," Prevot said. "I will basically be with my family after that. I'm going to work out at LSU and then take it easy and hang out. I'm very open and basically filling out each position with teams. I just want to get a good feeling for each team and see where they're going to stand on my list."

Looks like the only thing that would prevent the visit from happening is his mother being unable to get off of work on Wednesday. The staff wants to get him on campus as soon as they can so it sounds like a an offer is imminent.

I understand that drills are drills and completely different from live action, but I loved hearing how coachable and humble Swoopes is and he always seems to adjust to any environment he's in. He did the same at the Elite 11 in Dallas. I imagine it's quite surprising for him going from throwing with kids at 2A Whitewright to the best prospects in the nation; huge difference. Glad to hear he more than settled in once 7-on-7 started. That video is a good watch for anyone who may be questioning his arm strength.

    Not necessarily.

At this point I think it is more about a little insurance in case Prevot does go elsewhere. Also, Alfred provides more immediate help on the D line.

Weighing in at 200 lbs, Prevot needs a RS year and some quality time w/Bennie before he would be ready to contribute.

I agree with that. You lock up Alfred and continue to go after Prevot even if it's unlikely that he signs with UT.

Update on WR Devon Allen of Phoenix, AZ (24/7):

“Last week Texas contacted my head coach,” said Allen. “They let him know that they were interested in me and wanted to talk more with me. It was their wide receivers coach and he said that they really liked my film. They thought a lot of the way that I played so they wanted to let me know they are interested.”

“After Coach Wyatt got a hold of my coaches, I heard from the Longhorn track coaches,” Allen explained. “They contacted me on Facebook actually. They told me that they like me and are interested in me too, just like the football coaches are. Track is very important to me, so that’s definitely a big plus.”

“I like Texas a lot,” Allen told Hookem.com. “They’ve always been a good football team. They are a team I’ve sort of always watched. They’re one of those teams that are always good, so I’ve always kept an eye on them. But one of the main reasons I’m interested, is because I’m a track athlete and a football player, and I know they do a great job of supporting athletes who do both.”

“You can look at Marquise Goodwin as a prime example of that,” said Allen. “He plays football but also just qualified for the Olympics. That definitely caught my eye and grabbed my attention right away. That shows me that you can do both at Texas and do both very well.”

“That’s one reason they (Texas) stand out so much,” Allen said. “They have success letting guys do both. It makes me think that the football coaches let the track coaches do their thing with their athletes. They don’t just let them borrow their players for a month or whatever like some schools do. I mean, you can’t jump 27 feet in the long jump like Marquise did without a lot of training. That right there shows me that the Texas coaching staffs support each other and don’t mind letting their players do their thing. They put the athletes first. That says a lot to me.”

"Being able to do both is the deal breaker for it,” explained Allen. “That’s what will make or break me going somewhere. So far I’ve been lucky and every coach I’ve spoken with at the programs I’m interested in have all been very supportive of it all. That’s great for me that they’re open to it. I definitely want to try it my freshman year and see how it goes. Many people say it will be hard to balance them, but I feel like I can do it. There are many guys out there who can, so I don’t see why I’m any different.”
