I'm sure he will re-sign. I never said I wasn't.
Its just something to watch out for now as I think he will sign a ground breaking contract no matter what happens.
Juuuuuuuuuuuuuust wish it wasn't taking so long.
And i fully expect that he will do just that. Penn is a great fighter but as long as GSP takes it to him with his pace and versatility, by RD 4 or 5, he is going to take BJ out. No way Penn has the gas tank to hang with GSP for 5 rds, not a chance.
On a possible fight with Anderson Silva:
"A lot of people have been challenging me so far. I have a lot of friends at 185. To tell you the truth, I'm not afraid of challenging nobody at 185. I'm very confident in myself.
"I think I can do pretty well (against Silva). I think I'm a different fighter than all the guys who have fought him in the past. There's only one way to find out.
"It's a fight that everybody wants to see, including myself."
It's a mega fight for sure. I think GSP has a little more to do at 170 past Penn though. Love to see him fight Alves, maybe a Koscheck rematch there are a lot of great fights out there for GSP.
Doesn't sound like we have to worry about his contract status Evan.

The only thing is they have the Penn fight booked and if he were to lose i am sure the UFC would try and him over big time.
Here is what I would bet anything on has happened.
UFC gave him contract A which is huge
GSP's reps gave Dana contract B
UFC said they will accept contract B but only if he wins...if not...he gets Contract C.
Does that make sense?
I think GSP is laying it all out on the line for the biggest UFC contract of all time. UFC seems to give two contracts to big stars. A per fight contract with no win bonus like Penn or a escalating show/win contract like most take.
Do you know if he is getting PPV cuts right now?
I know GSP made about 200 grand on his last couple fights with bonuses
Yessir he is...he stated somewhere he ended up making 900k total for his last fight from the UFC alone. Think it was on sirius radio. Plus he is the only fighter still allowed to wear affliction shirts.
I would say GSP has more pull in the UFC than anyone else by a mile.
If that dude learns how to speak clear English he will double his income over night. He's a good looking clean cut dude who is a badass and is great in front of the camera. What else can you ask for in marketing?
Fedor, Chuck, Arlovski, Nog, Anderson etc all suck on camera yet they are all bad asses... GSP has so much over those guys and he.is.so.young. Dude hasn't even come close to his peak IMO. He needed to be humbled and he was by Serra...best thing that ever happened to him.
Nice, well earned too. The UFC does take care of the big star fighters pretty well, just wish they were more generous to some of the up and comers. It always annoyed me how o would just talk about his base money of about 250 grand and not mention how much he was making in bonuses. He was probably making over a mil a fight with the UFC for a long time.
"I would say GSP has more pull in the UFC than anyone else by a mile"
Well Chuck is still making the most money and i think Randy's new deal might make him 2nd, heard that somewhere but both those guys are obviously on their way out, especially Chuck.

His English is actually so much better NOW than even it was like 2 years ago.

Don't have to tell me, GSP is my fav MMA fighter by far, i love the guy. His ceiling is through the roof, just has to stay healthy and focused and he'll rule the sport of years to come.
Agree...but...they do allow them to have those banners behind them so that needs to be considered. UFC could easily put their own sponsers behind the fighters and take the money. Just trying to play devils advocate as I often do here since I love the debates.
o stated in his autobiography his fight with Rashad earned him a million and who knows what he earned against Lyoto since the book was written before that.
Good points. But if Dana's secretary says he has two calls waiting and its GSP and Chuck...who's do you think gets answered first?![]()
What is your stand on the TUF contracts?? I heard that is the main reason Jardine is still only making like 10 grand base pay. Hammill just got only 10 grand for the Franklin fight. I have heard a lot that those TUF deals are just lousy and the only way you make a lot of money is if you go on like a 9 fight win streak. Have you heard similiar things or are there a lot of bonuses their i am not aware of??
They get more money than what is stated to the commission (E.g. Griffin, Jardine, etc.). What is reported is only their base salary. How much more? Who knows? It's enough for them to accept their fights.
The standard contracts are signed before the season even starts. The winners sign the '6-figure' contract as an update to their original contract and it's more than 10,000 dollars per fight.

^agree 100%.
After reading all of these MMA biography's available I am completely convinced that the payouts we see are only half the story.
Example...After Chuck beat down Babalu he was talking to him before he got wheeled away to the hospital and Dana came out to say good bye to Babalu and haded him a nice bonus check.
Here's my quick thoughts on money in MMA (we have had this discussion a few times but whatever...its all in good fun)
- We haven't a clue how much these guys make
- Nobody can make money in MMA and stick around except the UFC so I am guessing their salaries are fair whatever they are. Affliction has only put on 1 show and a lot of their roster got screwed with that last cancellation. When was the last time chris horodecki got a paycheck?
- The UFC could probably pay more but they pump a ton of money back into the sport. What other MMA does or has? This venture http://www.mmafacts.com/ (UFC owns that website BTW) to get MMA regulated nation wide is costing them a fortune.
- Only a couple of fighters have complained. Thats significant.
- I want these guys to get every penny they can but I am convinced they are.

I know, in the NFL you have all of these holdout issues and what not. In the NBA and MLB there are a lot of players that have contract issues. In MMA, and UFC in general...not so much. Like Evan said, that is significant.
Besides...I'm not sure why people get so upset about it. If they fighters and agents aren't complaining...we the fans shouldn't worry.
ATTENTION...TUF SPOILER...TUF SPOILER...READ ON IF YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED!
This is from 411 mania
The lightweight fighter who Dana White called "the next Anderson Silva" on this season's "Ultimate Fighter" is apparently the winner of this week's fight.
END OF SPOILER!!!!PLEASE DO NOT MAKE REFRENCE TO IT, SOME PEOPLE DONT WANT TO BE SPOILED!

Shamrock vs. Shamrock - signed?
According to an article on ESPN.com, the fight is signed and the particulars are being sorted out.
"We've both signed a contract to fight each other," younger brother Frank Shamrock told ESPN.com. "Ken is down with it. We talked about it two years ago, and we've agreed materially to fight."
"Will the fight happen? Absolutely," Ken Shamrock told ESPN.com. "He's got a buttkicking coming to him. Everything I've learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I've still got love for Frank, but I'm angry at him."
It will most likely be under the EliteXC banner, probably some time in April of next year.
Yes, in a way it's very similar to Chuck/Wandy - something that would have had much more relevance had it happened five years ago.
I hope nobody makes reference to djohn's post...I intensionally did not read it.
The only name specifically mentioned was Dana White, if that helps change your mind. Not that that will help your spelling any.
Intensionally?
shush.....
leave me alone...I'm all kinds of Cowboys butthurt right now
made the challenger look like a fire cracker
