Under $250? I almost bought this camera yesterday (for a little less than it is now).
I've seen it in action (KEDA has one) and it takes great photos.
But both are great brands, especially in the DSLR range. From what I understand, it's kinda like Ford/Chevy -- some live and die by the brands.
My friend Adam (photo nut) prefers Canon, but told me either way would be a good route.
What is DSLR??
I just want something that's gonna take good pictures of my baby once my baby comes.

The basics: you have more control over your shots than a point-and-shoot (like the one I linked above). I've always been interested in photojournalism, so I've been wanting to learn about photography for a long time and this camera I'm getting today is a basic DSLR model that I can get different lenses for once I get going.

I did some research on the store and it has great reviews at ResellerRatings.com. That's where I'm buying my camera from.
It doesn't look to bad. But, my sister has a Cannon that has 12x zoom and it also takes video. We used it to record my nephew play his first basketball game.
I'm looking for bad ass zoom and the capability to change lenses.
I'm also into photography and would like to dabble in it with a good camera.
By the way, if my kid looks anything like Jman, two things are going to happen:
1. I just walk away and never look back.
2. Adoption.
I try not to focus on anything but optical zoom. I don't like how pics look with digital zoom. That Canon 750 takes video, too.
If you want interchangables, you might want to look at the D40 (the one I'm getting).
Ask KEDA and Meg, though... they both have the SD750.

I am a complete film snob when it comes to photography, but the Nikon D series digital SLRs are beautiful cameras.
