Some recruiting notes from 24/7...
-WR Jaylen Ellis of Round Rock Cedar Ridge should be visiting UT once June arrives.
-the race for LB David Gbenda of Katy Cinco Ranch is heating up with A&M having a lot of momentum, as they're selling him hard on being an SEC linebacker and he's liking that sales pitch. They believe it's a 50/50 race between A&M and UT at this point and he'll visit both schools during June.
-UT is back in touch with CB Jeffery Carter of Aledo after offering his cousin, DE Taurean Carter of Mansfield Legacy, last week. Jeff exchanged messages with Coach Washington recently and both of those guys want to play together in college.
-the staff is also in touch with OL EJ Ndoma-Ogar of Allen, who plans on taking several visits before the season starts despite being committed to Oklahoma.
-UT will continue to pursue 2020 QB Malik Hornsby as he has very high interest in UT and his high school coach also coached Bryan Carrington back in the day. As long as the commitment of 2020 QB/ATH Hudson Card doesn't scare him away, his recruitment is one to watch.
I just don't understand the recruitment of David Gbenda, I'm sure he is an amazing LB, but the dude is only 5'11. I remember back in the day watching Dennis Kennedy from Judson and he was also about that tall and was a total beast, but Kennedy was an OLB, not inside. I just don't see how this guy will be effective inside. He is going to have a hard tie just finding the ball. To be honest, if he picks aggsy over Texas, I would not be one bit upset, I just don't see how he is going to be more than just a special teams player on the next level.
I know lots of us like to hate on Tim Beck, but damn this guy knows how to recruit, have we lost a single QB recruit to another school. It seems that once he zeros in on a QB we can just call him ours. He is like the anti-Oscar Giles. Great recruiter, bad coach, where Oscar is Great coach, ty recruiter.
Holland from 24/7 just put in a UT crystal ball for WR Peyton Powell of Odessa Permian.

the texas regional may be a war of attrition as the temp on the field will be close to 105° this weekend.
See that is the kind of stuff that makes me want to move north. At lease during the summer. I'm in Houston for the next year for work, and this place is so damn hot and humid. I don't see how anyone can live here.
At lease when I lived in Utah, the heat was dry.
i feel ya. spent one summer in colorado away from the heat and it was pure bliss. never about upper 80's and usually a nice storm every evening to cool things down.
Per 24/7, UT will be partnering with Houston for their camp on June 9th.
The satellite camps start this week in several parts of the country.
I can't remember if it was Vito or pgardn waiting on this, but here you go.
OrangeBloods reporting that OL Junior Angilau is 100% enrolling at UT.
He wasn't pictured with the other freshmen moving in over the weekend because his high school doesn't graduate until June 6th.
The family will fly to Austin the following morning.
Inside Texas reporting the only freshman they're waiting to hear about is DE Michael Williams from Baton Rouge, LA.
It was me.
Thanks.
