Kobe couldn’t Even make that 2004 team
Lakers getting beaten by such horrible players twice
Kobe couldn’t make the playoffs in a league dominated by the spurs
    Laker fans talking about refs
    Avoiding talking about Lebron.
99 is an asterisk but somehow 12 and 20 aren’t.
    Kobe 3peated before 2004
    Jim never even repeated
    Jim without Kobe = Bronze
Kobe without Jim = 2 Gold Medals
    Melo has 3 Gold Medals
    Jim don't even have Silver
    but Jim has a Bronze
    just like Robinson

This would be the death of the Spurs:

FIBA refs made Jim look like Kwame
FIBA refs made Robinson look like Sam Bowie
FIBA refs made Pop look like Byron Scott
    FIBA refs exposing the Sp*rs
    FIBA refs = Seattle Spurs

*1999 " le" is biggest fraud champions in n NBA history

Nigeria has 8 NBA players on there roster. That should tell you they at least had a chance to pull off an upset.

    PG 1 Ike Iroegbu 26 – 14 March 1995 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) Élan Chalon France
    SG 5 Stan Okoye 30 – 10 April 1991 1.97 m (6 ft 6 in) Gran Canaria Spain
    C 8 Ekpe Udoh 34 – 20 May 1987 2.08 m (6 ft 10 in) Free agent
    PF 10 Chimezie Metu 24 – 22 March 1997 2.08 m (6 ft 10 in) Sacramento Kings United States
    SG 20 Josh Okogie 22 – 1 September 1998 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in) Minnesota Timberwolves United States
    PG 22 Gabe Vincent 25 – 14 June 1996 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) Miami Heat United States
    SF 33 Jordan Nwora 22 – 9 September 1998 2.03 m (6 ft 8 in) Milwaukee Bucks United States
    F/C Precious Achiuwa 21 – 19 September 1999 2.03 m (6 ft 8 in) Miami Heat United States
    PG Caleb Agada 26 – 31 August 1994 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) Hapoel Be'er Sheva Israel
    SG Obi Emegano 28 – 29 April 1993 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) Fuenlabrada Spain
    G/F Michael Gbinije 29 – 5 June 1992 2.01 m (6 ft 7 in) Free agent
    PF Chima Moneke 25 – 24 December 1995 1.98 m (6 ft 6 in) Orléans Loiret France
    C Jahlil Okafor 25 – 15 December 1995 2.08 m (6 ft 10 in) Detroit Pistons United States
    G/F KZ Okpala 22 – 28 April 1999 2.03 m (6 ft 8 in) Miami Heat United States
    G/F Miye Oni 23 – 4 August 1997 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in) Utah Jazz

None of those players are even starters on their respective NBA teams. Geez, most of them aren't even regular rotation players.

I'll worry if team USA is losing during the actual tournament.

Not defending Pop, but he is blaming conditioning and I could see that maybe being a thing. So burying him and the team might be a tad premature.

But Nigeria followed by the great Patty Mills?

Guys like Vince Carter (got married), Kevin Garnett (married), McGrady (planning to get married), Ray Allen (pregnant fiancee) and Jason Kidd (microfracture surgery) were no longer considerations for the roster. Shaquille O'Neal, Jermaine O'Neal and Ben Wallace were all wiped out from an exhaustive run in the NBA playoffs that season. Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant's trial for sexual assault was ongoing.

I think they'll be fine, but yeah, the US team looks pretty sh!tty right now. The superstar treatment these guys are used to, and lack of physicality in today's NBA is going to hurt them. The only guy with any bulk is Draymond. Big men still have a place in FIBA ball. The international game and the NBA have diverted pretty dramatically in style of play, and the Olympics will probably expose that. The coaches should be teaching the international rules, but so far it looks like the NBA players aren't adjusting well.

It would be interesting the US doesn't even medal. Right now they're not showing their going to be capable of getting out of their bracket, much less competing for the whole thing.

As Chuck on TNT said, everyone playing in the NBA is good, otherwise they wouldn't be in the NBA. So, Im not surprised Nigeria is good. , they beat Argentina by 20 yesterday.

In a way, they became superstars because they knew how to bait and manipulate the officials.

The original Dream Team results really failed to manage customer expectations down the road. Now we expect to beat everyone. Eventually we'll just be another contender. Argentina came along in 2004 and that should have recalibrated expectations, but the existence of players like Lebron James and Kevin Durant skewed it a little. When great players don't play, you end up with the glorified stars from non-compe ive teams vs actual team play of NBA players from other countries.

As if Kobe did anything without the loaded front court (almost always by far the best in the league whenever “he” was winning).

And about me mentioning Kobe. You sent thread after thread about Duncan, who’s retired for half a decade.

Duncan and Iverson TBH went when many others stayed away.

BLUF of the current team is Popovich is retired in place and good he is not doing well, Durant simply cannot lead, and Dame better start balling or this is over.
