IMO, he's unelectable as they come, but so was Trump. In that sense, this is probably his best and probably last shot at it. Plus, Congress will probably deadlock everything he sends there.
i think he would want to peg Tulsi as his running mate in an ideal world. she's a black sheep in the house right now who doesnt have much pull there. VP would elevate her.
recall that she resigned from the DNC and immediately endorsed him back in 2016, becoming the first congressman to endorse him. she also gave his nominating speech at the convention.
she also has a pretty strong progressive platform, would hit the female + minority checkmarks. plus losing a rep to become VP is much less impactful than losing a senator, particularly one with warren's influence. i would imagine that in that hypothetical, the administration would push congress to vote for warren as the minority leader (i sincerely doubt they flip the senate, tbh)
but pragmatism will ultimately carry. if sanders outperforms warren in some early states (and warren actually covets the VP spot, something i'm not that sure of), tapping her as the running mate might be sanders' only play to get her to bow out.
