Spurs general manager R.C. Buford has confirmed that the Spurs have signed Danny Green, a 6-foot-6 guard-forward who was with the club for six days in November.

Green had been playing with the Reno Bighorns of the NBA D-League. He averaged 20.1 points, a team high, along with 7.5 rebounds and 2.8 points in 16 games with the Bighorns.

His first stint was strange. It looks like he did nothing wrong but he was waived very quickly.

Spurs have roster spots available and are below the tax. Signing Green is a no drawback situation. At worst, Spurs will have a player to play 35mpg at the end of the regular season if Spurs have clinched the first seed early. At best, Green could be a better 12th man than Novak.

It will also be interested to see if his contract is also for next season with a big part being non-guaranteed. Green could be a good player to have for the 2011 training camp.

Does anyone know the drop dead date by which a player must be on the roster to be playoff eligible?

THat's the point right there. The Spurs have enough 3-pt chucker, but not enough good defenders. I don't know anything about Green's defensive capabilities.

This is a bit confusing because it was never clear why he was released so quickly earlier this year. However if they think he has the potential for a long-term fit, why not? Green would probably be about as good as any SF they 'll be able to get in the June draft.

I do wonder what this means for the life and times of Novak?

This. He's not going to do much this year...he is probably getting the Gee/Temple treatment.

He can't play in the playoffs, right? He's going to play a lot during the last of the regular season, giving rest to the sg/sf spots. Probably will be in training camp if they like what they see in these last few games.
