they thought one had occurred. they were wrong. thats very different from staging one and lying about it.

NASCAR assigns garage stalls base on driver point standings. The only team that gets #1 pit stall all year long is the defending champion. Everyone else gets it base on the current year's points.
It's hard to say where you're going to land on a week to week basis let along a year in advance without the season having played out.

It’s not even close to a Juicy Smollett level incident, but it’s for sure a bad look for Bubba.

yeah... if it was just tied up in a way where there was a loop to grab i'd say it was absurd given it's function. but the rings/coils stand out quite a bit
still doesnt necessarily mean that whoever tied it did so with bad intent, but i dont think it was a wild assumption at the time given Wallace's situation and recent weeks leading up to it. doesnt change that it shouldnt have been played up as much as it was prior to an investigation being conducted (or at least have nascar review their own security footage). but i think its fair to believe wallace's reaction was genuine, even if overstated given the information known
