I was thinking 1080 level performance would be really disappointing for Vega considering the cost of HBM2, but 1070 level performance is a freaking disaster.

CROFL Vega barely beating the 1070

    Cry Havoc

Get in here DJR210 and dance on AMD's grave.
Wtf. You realize that's just one of the Vega chipsets, right? AMD already openly stated they're releasing 2 or 3 versions of Vega. This could be the budget model that's ~$300 at launch.

    They're going to make a $300-$400 gpu using HBM2? I don't see it man.

That's exactly why I stayed away. It would have been tougher if mITX mobos were out for Ryzen, but they aren't, so I have some time.

Definitely going either 10xx or Vega.

Yep. Waiting for it to go in stock on newegg, but I'm probably going to wait for Vega anyway, so... not in the biggest of rushes.

I mean no way they don't at least demo Vega at Computex in early June and then launch a couple of weeks later, right?

For sure, I'm hearing they're going to demo it earlier than that, even.

another kick the man while his still down

apparently there is short supply of hbm2 memory...launch date with less then 20k units available...
    http://www.tweaktown.com/news/57418/...nch/index.html

AND here are the specs line of cards whats it aiming at competing with from NVidia
    http://www.tweaktown.com/news/57408/...ock/index.html

so the 4/8gb hmb2 version performance slots in between a 1070 and 1080? wtf gtfo, all this builldup for nothing, that card better retail below 1070
    a 16gb card vs anx?

so the benchmarks so far has been prototype and not the final end product with updated drivers....still disappointed though that its below 1080 performance...

ps. they should just get rid lineup of 4gb hbm2 cards, and use that 4 into the +8gb versions...why waste that 4gb unit when u can just add that unit production to the 8gb version when there is a short supply of hbm2 memory in production, wtf is going to buy a 4gb card? when 8gb should be the standard now

Why the 1700x over the 1700?

It was $350, no reason really. My motherboard is on the fritz, it runs Quake Champions fine for the most part, but I am having weird audio issues and haven;t upgraded since 2010.

From the reviews I have seen all three of the R7 1700, R7 1700x, and R7 1800x all seem to overclock to 3.9-4.1 GHz, based on the silicon lottery. For a workstation class cpu there is nothing that touches the R7 1700 at $315 IMO if you're willing to overclock. If not the extra $35 for the 400 MHz higher base clock on the 1700x probably makes sense, but I think it doesn't come with a cooler (while the R7 1700 does).

Easy build, and this thing is super quiet. Used the ASUS Prime X370 Pro.

So much for that. Vega Frontier Edition will launch in late June, but that's a compute card and the gaming cards aren't coming until later in the year.

seems like amd vega high end series are targeting clowns with 4k monitors, they said they want to achieve smooth 4k 60fps, but wtf has/gaming on 4k monitors?

Of course they're targeting 4k. That's what Nvidia's high end cards like the 1080 Ti are built for. If you're playing on a 1440p monitor the GTX 1080 is already a bit overkill.

For now. But in 2-3 years you'll need a 1080 to max games at 1440p.

    baseline bum Cry Havoc

lol cant even bring vega 1.0 to the market, yet hey are working on vega 2.0 vs volta
    http://wccftech.com/amd-working-14nm...as-volta-2018/

    more on vega 1.0 http://www.tweaktown.com/news/57587/...ega/index.html
But for the gamers, I think that the tease of HBCC (High Bandwidth Cache Controller) running on Rise of the Tomb Raider and seeing HBCC disabled and what I'm sure is the Radeon RX Vega running the game at 4K at 57.9FPS average, with 13.7FPS minimum. This puts the RX Vega at the speeds of the GTX 1080 11Gbps, but when HBCC is enabled – holy crap, there is a huge change.

AMD's upcoming Radeon RX Vega with HBCC enabled was running ROTT at 76FPS average (up from 57.9FPS without HBCC) but it's the minimum FPS that is where the magic happens: 49.1FPS with HBCC enabled, up from the 13.7FPS without HBCC.
that hbcc should just be enable at all times, whats the point of turning it off? its not like its going to consume more power or diminish life time of the card...

but damn without hbcc enable smooth 57.9fps 4k?...enable means x>60fps damn mein
now just waiting for the new monitors with fsync2 to be release, and they still havnt talked much about fsync2

That's false by the way. AMD said that quote was out of context and that the user-level cards will launch in June also.
