Some basics from Hennesy @ Boston Globe
No Celtic team had lost a Finals after taking a 2-1 series lead. No Boston team had lost three straight games in the Finals.

These guys did both. After not losing two straight games since March 28-30, they lost three straight in the Finals.
Games 4 and 5 were disappointing. The Celts collapsed down the stretch in both.
Game 6 was worse as the Green were outscored by an embarrassing 21-0 in a horrible stretch of the first half.
The Celtics were crisp and dominant in the early minutes, racing to a 14-2 lead and forcing a timeout by Kerr. The quick start emboldened a Garden crowd, which was decidedly nervous at the opening tap.

GS has more offensive and experience, and Ime was outcoached

But he’s a rookie HC so he gets a pass

Tatum being injured along with Williams was a big hamper. Also facing one of the greatest players of all time didn’t help as well. To get to the finals with the roster he had was an accomplishment in itself.

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the Poop coaching tree A whole lot of choking, as expected.

Celtics benefited immensely from injuries on their way to the Finals. It was over once they finally faced a healthy team.

I dont know if he was really HURT or not?, but this arse whoopin in the finals rests on Tatum. Dude folded like a cheap suite. He had a plethora of turnovers, took horrible shots and made about 25% of those bricks. He looked like a rookie instead of a superstar. Congratulations Golden State.

Wasn’t great obv but his roster is flawed and young, and GS was clearly just the more talented and more experienced team. Nothing he really could’ve done so no need to hang his head.

Bucks would’ve been in the Finals had Middleton not gotten hurt this season and imo they would’ve repeated. They were Golden State’s kryptonite and I know GS fans are happy they didn’t have to face them. Boston played a couple of injured teams in the Eastern Conference Playoffs and were lucky just to get there.

Ime has been nothing short of fantastic throughout the playoffs. His team didn't have the horses to go all the way, didn't help that both of his stars had a below average PER. Nevertheless, they played incredible defense and showed great resilience, which are signs of good coaching.

That loss ain't on Ime. It's not his fault Tatum is soft and him and Brown turn it over all the time

I’d give him a 6. For a rookie HC and went against a veteran champion coach and team, he managed to win 2 including one away. Obviously he got outcoached by the end. I think he needs a true PG to settle the team down. They cannot just dump to Tatum every time and see what happens. I don’t know if White is alpha enough. He kinda disappeared. But maybe in time.

Tatum was terrible but Ime was still outcoached

But again he is a rookie coach so it's understandable

I thought they looked like a poorly coached team all year. The only plan was always give it to Tatum and let him iso.

When the Celtics weren’t turning it over, they were still a historically excellent team on defense. Ime was fantastic. Unfortunately, Tatum and Brown are still really young and Smart has some major shortcomings. White and Pritchard really let the Celtics down with basically no bench.

I'll address this crutch excuse in more detail later.
    For now:

In the post-merger era, there's been five first-year head coaches who've led their teams to a le:
    Paul Westhead
    Pat Riley
    Steve Kerr*
    Tyronn Lue
    Nick Nurse

*fluke ref aided and mass injuries to opponents.

I really wish the NBA would return to the days of physical play. The game just looks like a Broadway show.

The level of gotry is appauling.

Notice when Smart did the bump on Payton then he and Poole *got into it*?
Farking ref puts his hand on Smarts and Pooles side and dances them apart. Even at that, Poole hacks down at what he thinks is Smarts forearm but it's actually the refs.
Poole gives Smart the "I'm a Mean Gurl" look.

    FFS it was soo pussified.

Can't ask more from Ime under the cir stances. He took a bunch of puppies into battle against seasoned vets with that championship DNA makeup, and took them to 6. His team got spooked last night, and that can't all be on him.

Next year he will have to figure our a way to discipline his players more on the Ref whinnying bs (Jesus Christ!). It was some sort of justice that Smart got tagged for stupid fouls for flopping all season long, but that clearly messed up the rotations. And, get Brown some dibbling 101 lessons FFS!

He let people get worn out. Not a fan of his rotations, or responding to what Kerr threw at him. But the Celtics overachieved, and Tatum is not a killer.

The game wasn't really more physcial back in the good ol days tbh

They called a lot of soft fouls , or in Jordan's case, imaginary fouls

Jordan would go to the rim, opponent barely touches his arm, nothing happens to Jordan : flagrant foul

Rodman, Mahorn, Magic, Jordan, Divac, Miller were certified floppers

    nostalgia
