Are they trading two firsts for him like a lot of STers wanted?
Spurs going all in for that Play-In tbh.

Would be worth it. Did you know he is 6’8
This is a stupid signing. Just as bad as Alize Johnson for the same reasons. I don't think the front office / coaching staff has committed to what a rebuild requires with these sort of half-measures. Disappointing stuff.
Welcome to .... what was that, like 2018?
Do we have a spot or are we waiving someone?
San Antonio Johnsons.
Well, that doesn't sound as good as you'd expect after Primo incident.
yeah man, signing an end of the bench guy really proves that point
still, weird signing, unless they think KBD will be out for awhile and just want some end of the bench insurance.
tbh i thought timvp said we were looking at IT? where were the sauces on Wright looking at Johnson
Like Alize, Stanley Johnson is 26. As a player, he is what he is. No upside at all. The Spurs should be using the end of their roster for in-person looks at young players (<22, preferably 19 and 20 years old). These players will not help them win in the short term, which is good. Converting a few of these auditions into a rotation NBA player helps Spurs in two ways. First, the player could be converted into a future asset. Think 76ers development of Jeremi Grant and Robert Covington. Second, the player stands a chance to contribute to the team by the time it gets good, which is 2-3 years off, minimum, even with Wemby. Alize and Stanley Johnson provide zero future value. Any value offered is very limited, if it exists at all, and extremely short term. Sharife Cooper, Luka Samanic, Jordan Hall, etc...are the type of players they should sign. And I know it is a verboten idea, but using the roster spot on Joshua Primo and immediately suspending him for season would be much better than Stanley Johnson, even with the PR backlash.
Expect players to have mysterious “injuries” to give Johnson playing time. And not make tanking too obvious.
Even still, I'd rather that playing time go to someone like Jordan Hall. Why would we want those minutes to go to Stanley Johnson? And Johnson makes the tanking more obvious, not less. At least with a player like Hall the team can truthfully say it is trying to develop talent for the future.
I will withdraw my complaint IF the Spurs make a trade shortly after Dec 15 and Stanley Johnson was just a seat warmer in advance of a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 transaction.

Alize waived. Potato, potato.
200 IQ move if Stanley takes the same number.
I saw the original twitter post has been deleted. Maybe just a rumor?
We have come full circle cause Kawhi ruined Stanley Johnson career. People were fine with him being a defensive stopper but when Kawhi went from that to start people thought Johnson could do the same and all of a sudden great defense wasn't good enough for him and he gradually turned into a bust.
What’s up with Dominic Barlow? Maybe play that guy.
Last summer, the Wolves (Minott) and Grizzlies (Chandler) resurrected the Hinkie Special, but with a wrinkle favorable to the players. Instead of four years fully non-guaranteed (the original contract of Covington, Grant, McConnell, and other 76ers), teams offered same structure but with a partial (Minott) or full guarantee (Chandler).
At a minimum, Bassey has earned one of these deals. The Stanley Johnson signing is puzzling in this regard. Why not upgrade Bassey instead? Again, my only guess is Johnson's reported deal is fully non-guaranteed and he will be waived soon.
Going into next season, the Spurs should have at least two, potentially more, players on partially guaranteed Hinkie deals: Bassey and their second round pick (early to mid 30s). Barlow may get the same offer. By the end of '23-24, I wouldn't be surprised if they've signed 4-5 players to this basic contract. They are so far below cap right now, they can afford to swing and miss and eat the remaining partial on the player's deal. It's a lot less expensive than, I don't know, a random DeMarre Carroll signing. Plus, these deals are easy to trade because nearly every team has a TPE large enough to take on the player. So if the Spurs develop a few of these guys but don't see them as a fit around their emerging core, they should be able to move them for asset(s) without taking players back.
yeah, i forgot all about barlow.
Dunno. Maybe there's a reason he's in the G-League.
but he's not exactly lighting up the G League; i just glanced over his stats.
Whenever you think Barlow, you should be thinking Bassey.
