Never happen. He is on record saying he wants to play with James.
If Carmelo opts out of his contract, and when the Spurs win their 5th championship, how would you feel about him coming to the Spurs?
I know he doesn't play much defense... I know that's a big strike against him... But I think he could fit right in...
Splitter, Duncan, Carmelo, Kawhi, and Parker... That sounds like a nice starting line-up...

that don't want that got
Wouldn't have the space to get him this year even if we wanted him, and he would be a horrible fit in the Spurs offence. A ball stopper and a sieve on the defensive end, I can't think of a less Spurs player in the league.
Depends on the deal. He'd be a fine player to have post-Duncan if the Spurs could keep their current core (minus Duncan) together. If the team would have to gut its roster to sign him, no. Melo will only reach his potential if he can play in a box. The Spurs' culture, roster and coaching staff is one only a few boxes strong enough.
My thought process is that Pop is Pop, and can (I think) corral any player into playing in his system...
But then again, Melo is very... Anti-Spurs...
Any player that throws a punch and then runs away after is a big P###$
I wonder if he would leave money on the table at a legitimate shot of winning a championship...
^^^ (not talking about with the Heat, either)
You've got to be kidding me. Melo doesn't fit with the Spurs style of play at all.
I'd much prefer kevin love, tbh.
No. Championships require defense. We couldn't hold Miami below 100 with his cap killing contract.
Pop will not stay around to guide Melo. He doesn't want the headache at this point in his career. He'd rather go get trashed with Tim in his wine cellar and reminisce about the good times.
Love would fit perfectly in our system. But he wants to play in CA.
i think lebron will leave miami and come here
Love for splitter, Marco and the rights to Livio and future 1st round pick
I don't want Love.
Love is a stat padder. I'd prefer Anthony Davis.
Wolves already have Pek. They don't want Splitter.
I think the "Melo is an ant-Spur" argument is overblown. I think he's an anti-Diaw for sure. He's not inclined to pass rather than score. But he's had stretches where he's played point-forward very well. Like Boris, Melo has the ability to control a game through the low-post. Unlike Boris, Melo can beat post of his defenders off the dribble and is an accomplished midrange shooter. He's also a talented defender when he wants to be, especially against PF, which means he can play the four legitimately like Diaw and not just situationally like Durant.
Melo's problem is really that he has a ton of bad habits, and he falls into those when he's not fully engaged and bought-in to the system. You shouldn't have to constantly coddle/coach up your star to keep his head in the game, but if there's a coach that can do that, it's Pop. The issue would be how Anthony responds to such coaching. I think it'd be fine for the Spurs, as Melo would not only respect what Pop is telling him, but he would also know that doing so could legitimately mean he'd get a ring. It should work for Carlisle, Thibs and Spo as well. I doubt it would work for McHale, though.
In short, I wouldn't try to build a team around Anthony, but I think he'd be an asset if he could land on an already-made le team that just needs a dominant scorer.
But they need another big to replace love and splitter is probably the best big they can get.
