Sound like the plot for a cheezy Bollywood movie, tbh. Odds of that happening after vaccines are available (and the upcoming treatments like the pills) are fairly low.
It actually does take quite a bit for an actual civilized society to turn barbaric. I mean, this isn't even close to the first time we have to deal with a pandemic like this one and none of those things happened. Not now, not 100 years ago with the Spanish Flu.
The economic malaise is real though, but that's why it's important to have an active government in times of emergencies.
I would actually rather be living in a major city than the backwoods, close to the best hospitals and clinics with the latest equipment and treatments, tbh... but that's just my preference.

Not sure what you're laughing about. The presentation of disease can be mild and still escape current vaccines and treatments. With emergent phenomena initial reports can be noisy. We've seen it time and again with notorious crimes people try to make political hay out of in this forum.
