Everyone knows they were on the end of some bad calls that series but sure.
Two series in a row against Dallas, 2003 and 2006, Dallas was awarded 50 and 49 FTs in the respective game ones.

Stop that Spurs team was the 7th seed and wasn't that good as seen once they played the Suns. Like I said I'm ok with moving on from Pop but let's not look back and lie and say thqat he hasn't dominated Carlisle. Out coached by Rivers and Donovan sure but Carlisle not a chance.
Too basic a way to view things. I put it into the proper context, which was that by every conceivable measure but record, which is somewhat reliant on luck (late/close variance), they were a clearly superior team.

No coach "dominates" another. That's nonsense.

    So Pop didn't own D'antoni?

No, the biggest three did. At that time, Duncan was the best player in the league and they matched up well with the Suns. They also, uncharacteristically, seemed to catch the majority of the breaks against them.

What about the Houston series in 2017? No Kawhi for long stretches. Tim gone into retirement. Tony on his last legs.

Pretty much this. D'antoni had every advantage in that series but he still lost to Pop. These dudes hate Pop so much that they fit to give him credit or will skew facts to not give him credit.

Spurs 87 Mavs 85 in Game 1 2006. Mavs shot 28 free throws.
You might be thinking of Game 3, one of the biggest rip offs of all time.

MVP Timmy Dunkar doing 35/12 on 15-23 shooting.
All while shutting down Dirks A sky who went 3-9.

Oh but 24 FTA for Dirk.

    *Rookie Avery Johnson 2006
    Alvin Gentry
    *Phil J 4-1
    more

    *granted ref aided.

No Alvin won fair and square but it was one time. It's not like he beat Pop 5 times in a row. Pop is 4-0 against D'antoni the ve y fact that Gentry swept Pp with the same team D'antoni lost with proves my point. Look Pop did a ty job this year but for his career dude has been of a coach period!!!

Exactly. What the apologists don't get is that I wasn't even criticizing him. I'm speaking to the reality that coaching is overrated (granted, it was more important during the era they're mostly referencing, but still) and the notion of one owning another overstates their importance.

It is incredible how much Carlisle did more with less.
What did he do? Avery took them to a Finals. Rick caught lightning in a bottle. Hasn't really done since.
