Just do both the ads and the subscription plan. If the ads bother you that much and/or if you want to support the site, then you can do a subscription plan to help cover the costs while eliminating the ads for that tier group. If you don't want to pay, then suck it up and keep the ads.

This wouldn't be a bad option in the future.
Especially if premium members got access to like additional content or something.
