Honestly, I didn't read the whole story. It seems like that would have worked. I don't know how these things go.
Seems like Griner for Bout is like trading Brandon Cooks for Pat Mahomes in fantasy football.
fwiw, Whelan's family publicly supports the deal

I know how Old Joe is going to do it: he'll sign the same-sex marriage act next to her.

I did hear that. And don't get me wrong. Good to get a U.S. citizen back. I'm pretty sure we treat prisoners better than they do.
And in reality, it doesn't change much for them to get Bout back. It's not like he's going to be very important going forward. But you can make the same case for a 52 year old marine.

If Danny Ainge had been involved the US would have received 2 First rounders unprotected. We need a new GM. Too easy?

All kidding aside, I am glad she is coming home. Suffering in prison sucks and I am certain a Russian prison is even worse. I am happy for her wife too.

That should've rot in Russia. Let's trade an arms dealer for a pos like Griner but let a Marine rot for many more yrs than he already has in Russia. You can clearly see how much this hack Marxist admin cares for this country and its troops.

No matter what side of the isle you’re on, the fact that we traded arguably the world’s most notorious and dangerous arms dealer/war criminal who was imprisoned for murdering Americans/plotting to murder countless more for a ing women’s basketball player is pretty ing hilarious tbh

She's black, Gay and obviously female (or not obviously). She checks all the boxes. Letting her sit in a Russian prison isn't a good look for based Biden, but he got it done and didn't give a who cares or not.

Spurs fans are used to bad deals for years, so no wonder most people here think this is a great deal.

I'm glad she's been freed. I don't see any value in judging it like a sports trade or analyzing who "won" the deal. Seems the only people who do want to look at it that way are people who are predisposed to butthurt anytime Biden does something positive.

I'm no righty but we got absolutely ed by this deal, maybe more tolerant if she was innocent but her dumbass flat out broke the law

it would be a neutral if he traded them a woman basketball player. Giving them the merchant of death is not a positive in any way.

Also, people ing for wanting that marine out, should also be pissed at Trump, just as Biden.

I expect a deal like this to be lopsided in Russia's favor because Russia is a totalitarian hole with a desperate sociopath as its leader and Griner was being held specifically for this type of thing.

It's excessive punishment. Your point of view treats guilt and innocence as a black and white concept, where guilt of anything rationalizes even the most ridiculous punishment.

In my opinion, Griner being in prison for 9+ years over a vape pen is worse than a completely innocent person being in prison for three weeks, for example.
