lol i remember the days when spurfans here were guaranteeing a threepeat because they signed antonio mcdyess
As the saying goes better offense beats good defense.
That was unfortunately ZR's best playoff series of all-time.
It came at a bad time for Spurs fans.
Nothing else he ever did would ever approach that IIRC.
At least he didn’t get beat by Austin croschere.
I thought it was all over after that series. No perimeter defence + Duncan's knee blowing out (& ankle in 2011 ) around the 70th game of the season, 3 years in a row.
If I recall, Memphis actually tanked so they could draw SA in RD 1. They knew they held the advantage down low.
Credit to Jim for revitalizing his career after that.
I remember 2011. That was the year Phil was ushered out of the league via a 40pt ass whoopin in Dallas.
Tanked to face Spurs over Lakers
That Memphis team presented serious match-up problems
for a not hundred percent Spurs team.
It wasn't all about Z-Bo by any means.
In fact, Z-Bo playing along side Marc Gasol is the equivalent
of a good three hitter hitting in front of a league leading cleanup hitter.
Who was out for SA?
Manu was out for Gm 1, which the Spurs lost 98-101.
The grumblings were that he was playing hurt throughout that series after that.
That Spurs team got out to a ridiculous start to the season but fell off hard by around February or March. I think the only WC playoff team they might have beat that year would have been New Orleans. Oh well, swept those gots two years later in the WCF.
Yep, that was a fool's gold team with awful defense that relied heavily on Richard Jefferson and George Hill, two soft ass players that the bed when teams needed them most. Plus an aging McDyess and that awful Bonner/Blair lineup plus Tiago being stuck on the bench. Not surprising the Grizzlies beat them, but we ended that in 2013, 2016, and 2017. anyway.
Still had an HOF 3 that wins that series conservatively nine times out of ten when healthy IMO.
I don't recall anybody ever saying that. Spurs signed Dice in the summer of '09 and were 2 years removed from winning a le. They didn't look like contenders during those 2 years. At the time it was considered a solid signing but not some big game changing move. I do remember everybody thinking that RJ would help bring the Spurs over hump and get them 1 more le.
daslicer just sliced this sh** take up, tbh.
Yep. When Shannon Brown laid with MVPau's GF it was all downhill from there. Costed Kobe #6! SMH
BAAAAAAHHHAAHAHA!! Never even repeated once!
FIFY, no need to thank me.
**1999 season had 50 games. 50 ÷ 82 = 0.61. The 1999 "champions" deserves an asterisk and only 61% of a real lePERIOD.
Neither did Kobe.
Now that's some swag.
