I believe Gregg will break his tie with Jerry Sloan of 22 straight years coaching the same team.
Although technically you could exclude 1997 as he filled in in December of that season. He'll definitely be the top record holder if he makes it to year two of this contact.

Once he commits to his 24th season he will get a 3 year extension that keeps him the highest paid HC

Good call, MoSpur02. You said awhile ago that Pop would sign a three-year contract that was basically a year-to-year deal. Well done

    Appreciate timvp.

Is it me or does it seem kind of odd for the Spurs to leak out info on something like this so soon? I mean the season just ended and already some pretty big news.

The only times I can remember the Spurs leaking info about Pop's contract was when it involved luring a free agent.

    Hmm...

i see that as a possibility. at the very least, it's a signal to the current roster that the spurs are investing in this current core, more or less, and that this investment entails pop being on board (the year to year, imo, is more about giving pop an out for unexpected health or personal issues).

Spurs only have MLE to offer if they do not dump multiple players. Nobody is gonna touch Patty's contract with a pole.

What if Pop really was looking forward when he told the pelicans GM not to trade to the Lakers... Maybe trade centered around LMA?

I wouldn't be surprised if LaMarcus Aldridge is traded or if Derozan is. Would be crazy if Kawhi Leonard returned, but it would never happen

If a team thinks they may be 1 piece away, he would be attractive to them.

3 more years if he averages about 45 wins a season, and he has the all time reg season record for coaching wins..

It’s hard to imagine SA moving one of the only two semi-stars they have. Why? Because it’s hard to imagine SA getting a semi-star back and one would think they want that.

They made a win-now move with trading Kawhi for DeRozan that they absolutely did not have to. So then a year later, you are going to reverse course on that strategy while having DeRozan on the books?

Does not make much sense to me, unless they think they can flip DeRozan or LmA for a better fit but similar caliber type player.

I wont be mad if they move LMA/DeRozan for picks or youth, but it will make the trade for DeRozan look perplexing.

But perhaps this was the plan with LMA all along. He did request a trade at once, but even though they hashed things out, maybe this was the plan. I mean, look at his extension - his second year was only about 25% guaranteed which I found odd for a player of his caliber

Actually, he only needs 91 wins to get the mark, or, roughly one season of 45 wins and one of 46.

So he can add to it a bit more. Maybe that is why he wanted 3 years..
