Not a fan of his game, but a sensible signing nonetheless; particularly for only 1 season (though, if Aldridge doesn't try to force a trade, I wouldn't be surprised if he's re-signed for 2 following it). Will be especially true if they're smart enough to not trade Leonard to the Lakers (Kuzma).

Every team trying to be compe ive needs 3 featured players and despite his archaic style, he's still more equipped to fill that role than anyone seemingly likely to be on the team not named Aldridge.

Gay doesn't do anything particularly well, so he's a great fit for this team.

I really want to see a full, healthy year from Gay to see what he can do, so I'm fine with this deal. He came back last year, showed he can still play, and got a contract more deserving of a player of his stature. And the single year gives the Spurs flexibility going forward.

Really would've liked to see what he can do with Kawhi, but that ship has probably sailed.
