"Wait. I can catch Covid twice?” my 50-year-old patient asked in disbelief. It was the beginning of July, and he had just tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, for a second time — three months after a previous infection
While there’s still much we don’t understand about immunity to this new illness, a small but growing number of cases like his suggest the answer is “yes.”
Covid-19 may also be much worse the second time around. During his first infection, my patient experienced a mild cough and sore throat. His second infection, in contrast, was marked by a high fever, shortness of breath, and hypoxia, resulting in multiple trips to the hospital.
Recent reports and conversations with physician colleagues suggest my patient is not alone. Two patients in New Jersey, for instance, appear to have contracted Covid-19 a second time almost two months after fully recovering from their first infection.

Nail in the coffin for herd immunity myth
Damn only a vaccine or miracle might be the only solution nigs
Any sane persons plan should be:
- wait for a vaccine to mature (6m to 1y)
- meanwhile protect hourself. Masks, quarantine, social distance
This next year is gonna be brutal for all of us
Looks like Russian vaccine will be first. Will protect you for 2 years. Chinese are probably next then the West.
Tough times ahead nigz. Buckle up and tighten the assholes
Also reading in many cases, antibodies disappear within weeks.
If that’s true, pre-vaccine herd immunity is essentially impossible.
It was always a myth. I said it from day one.
Herd immunity without wonder vaccine = total surrender
Lockdown forever its the only way. In every country. Everywhere.
Same straw man every time.
More like = to mass murder
Lol ifr less than flu in fla tex az....
Strange.
Tell us how you dominated back with thos sick set shots back in 68' thldren bwahahaha grandpa
Basically means that the death rate could increase with each successive wave. Having already had Corona would be considered a preexisting condition to increase risk rather than a mitigating factor. So the number of folks who are in the risk category would just keep going up.
Show your math
Then why did they give a booster after only a couple of months?
Can someone explain how a vaccine would illicit a lasting immune response when the actual virus doesn't?
I’m wondering this as well. Unless they’ve developed some unique way to keep antibody levels elevated longer, I don’t see why a vaccine would do more than surviving the virus would.
Yeah I will treat that 2 year thing as just another marketing BS for now
The next big question is IF our human bodies retain the virus memory. If they do that means 2nd time you get this should be milder.
IF it doesnt we are sooooooo ed
A sad day for blake.
He may have to stop guzzling for the rest of his life.
If infection doesn't cause immunity, then what hope for a vaccine?
The whole Russia is first thing is marketing BS. All they really said was their vaccine produced the desired immune response which Pfizer, BioNtech, Moderna, and others have already done. That doesn't mean it works or has lasting protection.
I was just looking at some of the early test results from those companies. It looks like they are all giving multiple doses in a short period of time in order to boost antibodies above what is found in infected people. Doesn't bode well for a vaccine coming to the rescue imo but I hope I'm wrong.
So basically we're ed and un able?
They could still have a vaccine that provides short term immunity for vulnerable populations. Wouldn't be practical or doable for the general population.
You could get a vaccine and go back for a booster every 90 days for the rest of your life
If the virus memory T cell thingy fails a monthly shot might be the only option
Or wear some kind of helmet permanently
This should have already taken place after the first infection.
You dont get how immunity is supposed to work in theory.
The first infection should be the best vaccine you can get hombre.
