Nurses cannot even do chest compressions on these people with standard PPE on. Any time the chest is pushed on or during the act of intubating, the virus is aerosolized putting everybody in the vicinity at risk. They basically have to put these hazmat looking things on. So in a hospital if you think doctors aren't weighing the risks to themselves and the staff before they even assist a crashing patient (which could be a 5-10 minute response time because of the PPE required anyway), you're ing wrong.
We're going to lose a lot of people simply because it's dangerous for the caregivers to resuscitate them during an arrest. On top of that, some of the harder hit areas are prioritizing the use of their vents. Our only hope is that social distancing slows the spread enough to prevent another NYC situation.
