Coach Pop says Spurs liked Belinelli's ability to run pick & roll before signing him
Prior to tip-off between the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was asked what the Spurs like about Marco Belinelli before signing him. Coach Pop said Belinelli's play in the pick-and-roll (via Spurs.com)
Popovich: “We really liked his ability to run a pick and roll along with being a shooter where he can change sides of the court with the ball and have somebody besides your point guard who can run a pick and roll. A lot of twos and threes can’t run a pick and roll. Either they can’t handle the ball well enough, they can’t read the situation well enough, or they can’t pass well enough. He got to do a lot of that for Thibs (Tom Thibodeau) in Chicago and he’s pretty good at it. So it makes him more of a complete player in that sense and not just a shooter. Like Manu (Ginobili), he has a good feel for the game. He understands what’s going on, he understands spatial relationships, and I like his passing, so those are other things we liked about him.”
