You know, early on in the 2003 season, I really, really wanted to trade Parker for Gary Payton. I'm a defense first guy (that got ingrained in me during the '99 season and I haven't really changed since) and this really hurts me to watch someone get torched consistently and give no resistance whatsoever. Not sure how it all would have turned out if that trade would have gone through, but man, I can't watch Parker get torched time and time again. If he has a good offensive game, it kind of breaks it even, but you can't even count on that consistently these days. With a slightly past his prime defensive Gary Payton right now, and still only the 6th seed, I'd probably be ecstatic even after this loss.
I have no idea why they gave TP such a big extension.
19 year old Parker dismantled Payton in 2003 during regular season. I remember almost feeling sorry for Payton as he struggled to contain Parker. There was one sequence in which Parker drove the baseline faked a pass to the corner, Payton completely loss sight of ball, and then scored on easy layup. At that point, I knew we had something special in this kid and why he became our starting PG six games into the season.
