"Ahead" and "Better" need to be interchanged with Spurs philosophy moving forward tbh

I feel dirty rooting for the team to lose and being mad AF when they win, especially against a good team. I'm just rooting for the greater good and future of this team. This does us no favors. I don't care about getting butt- ed in round 1 and landing in another mid to late 1st round pick that won't move the needle. I can't help it.

Lmfao! U can't be serious...the spacing was MUCH better...not to mention we held the sun's to under 90 points
They didn't have Poeltl, so automatically the spacing is better. This isn't at all about spacing. The offense was still below average. White had another poor offense game again, same as walker. This was all about defense and nothing about offense. And also Sun's layed an egg, namely Eubanks destroyed their number 1 pick

I don't think this win tonight changes anything at all. Spurs schedule is still pretty brutal. GS is also starting to play pretty good basketball, and Memphis and Dallas have been good enough to not lose enough ground. In the East I would not be surprised if Washington makes the playoffs from the play in tournament. They are playing really well right now. Might need to keep our eye out on Charlotte though if that happens. I think there's still a shot we can get pick ten even winning a few more games. My money is still on that we get the 11th or 12th pick though .

I think you underestimate how important wins are like this to young personal.
When you play where there's, to a great extent, an unflinching hierarchical rotation, respect has to be earned through in game NBA experience, training and scrimmages.

With this season though, you really only have the former ie. In game play - to make your case and point to why you should be on the floor.

Now you have just beaten one of the top teams on the road, in the same conference, on the second night of a b2b.

Team was as compe ive for 48 minutes as I've seen all year.
That will pay dividends in the long run, even if it is as simple as suggesting that DDR should not be on the team next year and Patty does not have to feature as a key cog going forward.

A win like this, regardless of positional Draft advantage, can only mean good things to a core who rarely have been given these chances.
We saw the exact same thing happen last year a week or so before the shutdown...then fully embraced in the bubble and the better part of this season.

I still think we're a play-in team at best now, but if we are going to win some, youth best be served and I can happily live with the outcome.

We should start betting now on how many minutes Vassell will play in the next game. It's almost guaranteed to be under 20.

Respectfully, I think you overestimate what this win does for a young player when most of our young players have already had a taste of the playoffs. Dejounte Murray, Derrick White and Jakob Poetl all have playoff experience. Is it really more important to get a chance to get murked in the 1st round just so Keldon and Vassell can get the experience? Or wouldn't it be more important to position ourselves for our best chance to be formidable playoff participants in the years to come instead? We have to remind ourselves with the harsh reality that free agents, particularly SUPERSTARS or just stars in general, do NOT want to play in San Antonio. The last star who did just retired last week and just so happened to be a Texan with a son living nearby. Unassuming Stars with character like the Big 3 and Da Admiral don't grow on trees. Stars now are all about the glamour and "clout" and the mainstream exposure and they know they won't get that playing in San Antonio. The only way we can convince one to be a long term Spurs player is to get him through the draft and the more we keep winning these types of fruitless games, the less likely we are to get a player of real positive consequence moving forward. It's just a ty situation.

It was still fun seeing ball movement and youth and victory tonight though.

We just tied the Dubs, who lost today and won't be having Wiseman coming back the rest of the season. 11th or 12th is our best case scenario but had we rolled over tonight, we still would've had an outside shot at 9th pick. Now, we have to hope players are snubbed in the draft and we get a steal. We just beat a good Suns team though so I'm really worried we'll end up with a late 1st round pick now.

I agree with every point you made Padre. I wasn’t talking about getting playoff experience fwiw, as unfortunately think the seeds have been sown as far as that and draft positioning is concerned this season. After the disastrous home stand, think we will finish at best 10-11th in the conference and then you’re looking at 1-2 draft position spots +/- at best either way come July. Don’t think we can realistically lose more than that.

What I really mean is, this is one of the first times we have had a Pseudo Socialist Offense and the results were encouraging.
The ball moved, players shot when open (and w/o hesitation), they played with moxy, gusto. They were given reward for effort on both ends.

Younger Players showed they may be ready to take on more responsibility than the coaching staff thought or at least sooner.

If we win going forward with young players predominantly at the helm, doesn’t it suggest they’re better than we thought and we may have some stars already? If we’re winning and found this out, can’t see a downside to this.

If we lose, it just proves your point even further which may put us in the position to do a proper tank job next year.

I know it seems ugly atm but games like this could very well be the beginning of something special going forward...

At worst, it’s a flash in the pan game. But goodness knows, we should celebrate a little as we’ve seen some mediocre basketball over the last month or so

The only positive I take out of wins is that the more wins the Spurs get the closer Pop gets to the all-time coaching record. The sooner he passes the record the higher the chance he finally goes away.

Watching basketball that doesn't feature DeRozan or Mills is a fun hobby, tbh . . .
This has post of the year written all over it.

(Love ya Patty for 2014 though)

I agree about the defense...I mentioned that...it's the most important factor...but let's stop acting like Jacob is the reason the spacing was bad before...Drew isn't a spacer...all the teams in the league with great spacing the past few years have a center that couldn't shoot for ...our spacing was bad because of Demar

It's easy to point to Demar, but our backcourt aren't spacers and our starting PF isn't either.

Must be referencing the David Lee that came in late in his career to play for the Spurs, because the David Lee that I knew was much better than Eubanks in his prime years playing for the Knicks and the Warriors.

    "Aren't spacers"

    1-1
    1-1
    3-7

Stop looking at percentages for the season when over time they're getting better at shooting. The team has had no practices as they would during a regular season, barely any time to stabilize their shooting.

I read the "Pseudo Socialist Offense" and laughed-- it's a very apt description, and there are probably times when everyone should go on the pseudo socialist offensive in their lives, scattering good efforts all over the place!

It was just so refreshing to see legitimate ball movement, no hesitancy shooting threes, and six guys in double figures.

One other thing that I think is important to note: the shooting in this game wasn't all that great or outlandishly out of the ordinary. Sure, you can't expect Eubanks to shoot 100% from the field regularly, but Walker was 3 for 11, Samanic was 0 for 6, and White was 4 for 13. But Phoenix's All Star back court shot poorly with no DeRozan or Mills to focus their attack on.

Lee had a nice jumper , but I agree the energy is similar . I always like David when he came to us played super hard and wasn’t a pussy and could actually rebound

Not sure you should include field goals near the rim and classify that as shooting. Shots made near the rim have more to do with the player's response to physicality, while actual shooting has to do with aim and skill.
