Cleared both Hardaway’s and Lee’s contracts off the books. Likely a play to get as many as three max players over the summer, e.g. Kyrie, Butler, and Davis. Not saying they will or can. But that’s probably the plan.

Unless they get the #1 pick what assets would they have to make a move for Davis? They must really think they can get Durant.

Also the trade gives them room for a 35% max player and a 30% max player once you factor in their committed salaries, cap holds, and the rookie contract they'll be paying for their first round pick.

EDIT: Actually, more like room for two 30% max players, as I forgot to factor in Smith's guaranteed money.

Not much of a gamble IMO. They traded Dennis Smith for a possible franchise big. If Porzingod never gets healthy again oh well, they just dumped a guy they didn't want and whose trade value was dropping like a rock anyways.
